Default Explorer Question

I have been wanting a Explorer SE Pro for a long time now, but have the opportunity to buy a Explorer II. My question is what is the real difference between the two. Is there an advantage over them other than one being newer with better technology, or are they both comparable with one another. They want $535 for the Explorer II shipped, is this a good price, or would I do better to keep looking for the Explorer SE. Any help would help me and thanks guys and gals. Talk to you all later.

Don't take this as gospel because I've never owned the EX II, but before I bought my SE I tried to find out the same thing. What I was able to find out is the SE has a faster processor, which allows it to.. um... well, process faster. In other words it doesn't need to be swung quite as slow as the Ex II. I also believe it is more stable mainly due to the Pro coil?

I have asked the same question about my Explorer XS and the 2, se, E-trac before. I have tried a II and the SE and compared to my XS I saw no real difference other than the 2 zone ID setup they have now on the II and SE. I'd offer like 450 for the II and throw a pro coil on it. However since its basically the same machine you are using now I would look into something different like a Whites or Fisher.

No one has any other info for me. I could really use the help please, I want to purchase a new used detector and have the chance to buy the Explorer II, but don't want to waste my money if it's not worth it. So all in all could someone let me know if the price is right for the II, they want $535 for it shipped.

That is about the going rate for them so you are not getting a deal and it's basically the same thing you have now but white instead of black. Electronically you won't see any difference it may be a tad slower but not to the point which it would be noticeable for most people. The control panel, menu setup, etc. are all the same.

If its in good working condition with no major scratches or other damage that would be a good price..If nothing else you could try it for a while & if you don't like it for some reason you should be able to get what you paid for it back.. I've had my explorer II for around 3 years or so & I really like it.

I have had both. The SE is a bit faster. Not much difference really. Specially if you run it in all metal as I did.
The best thing you can do for any explorer is get the new PRO coil. It separates really well and lighter. I think its why so many people love the etrac! It has the pro coil on it!

Thank you to everyone, I thought that the explorers were pretty much the same detector no matter what the model, just subtle differences. I think I will pick up this detector and get the sunray probe and the pro coil, and maybe a "sniper" coil for trashy areas. Again thank you to all this helped me out so much.

They are. The only detector I have used the last 10 years is an explorer and have owned several XS, IIs, and now an SE. I also use the old style stock coil on the SE, and would take a II with the black coil over a brand new SE with the pro coil. Don't be fooled by the faster processor hype... that's just when you're using the menu and who the heck cares if it takes an extra second for the number to update. I think the Sunray will be a great addition, but like I said I think the old coil is better and that's based on 10 years and God knows how many thousands of targets dug. I bought a new pro coil and sold it taking a loss, then sold the one that came with my SE to use the older style... which I currently have two of, and plan to start hoarding them. You won't be sorry buying an explorer.
