Default What is your take on GPR?

I have seen this thing advertised for a couple years. Never actually heard of anyone using it. There is a 6 page description that just gets better and better the longer you can stick with it. Seems too good to be true, and at that price I will never know. . .

I would love to have one but can't justify the expense. However, if it works as advertised I could see where a person could really clean up with it. It might pay for itself relatively quickly. But I'm not willing to take the chance. I do think though that something like that is the future of metal detecting but if you buy one now your paying for the R and D. In five years they will probably be cheap enough for many of us to buy one. I don't know, just my opinion.

It is NOT a real RADAR.

Well they call it a radar 19 times on the first page alone...
What makes it not a radar? Vibrations?

The product name is "Golden King Deep Processor Radar". The word "Radar" is just part of the name, probably to
confuse the unwary.

If it was a real RADAR, you'd be sterile ... or worse, after standing that close
to it when it is operating without any protective shielding. Here are a few links
that show you what real GPR radars look like and their applications.

Also, if you look at it, the business end looks like VLF detector type coils. A real RADAR would look more like a satellite dish because they operate at much higher frequencies, from hundreds of MegaHertz to tens of GigaHertz.

Sterile is not so bad.

So you think it is a gimmick/false advertising? Would love to give it a spin.

Let's say that it is quite unethical. I would also be quite wary given the lack
of any meaningful specifications.

At that price, I would want to see one operating under field conditions before I put any money on the table.

Default Slightly Misleading

This device is not actually a "radar" ... it's a metal detector with one really big difference. It uses a pretty powerful microchip to wade through the data and pull metal objects out of the noise of the surrounding soil. I think this technology is well overdue and somewhat the future of metal detecting. What is holding this back from mainstream is the cost of development vs demand (it's a niche item with low demand), weight due to the power consumption (you need a large and expensive battery to keep it running). The components are relatively cheap in bulk, but see my last point. The ARM9 chip is what's used in smartphones which is actually an order of magnitude more powerful then what you find in MD's today. I'm somewhat inclined to believe the ad due to there being nothing really magical about what this thing does, the technology has been around for a while now, it's just not that practical for your average TH'er and quite expensive to implement.
