Am interested in purchasing a lower end detector..not completely sure how much I would use it, but feel would use at least a couple times a week during good weather...My wife wants me to get a Bounty Hunter Quick Silver (I haven't found any reviews / comparisons) and I want the Garrett Ace 250 (most reviews have been positive) I'm not sure which machine is better or why..Can anyone out there help me out..

Ace would go deeper with stock coil. Some people like bounty hunters but they are very cheaply made. Dont get me wrong you can find good stuff with them but i have owned several and like my Ace better

Not to confuse you, but the Tersoro Compadre is also an inexpensive machine you should consider. It's well made, has a lifetime warranty, and is simple to use. Additionally, it has a great reputation for finding coins and bling. I bought one and am very happy with it. For $150 it's hard to go wrong.

Welcome! Stay away from the quick silver, if budget is the issue at least go with an ace 150 or better. I speak from experience....

Now my wife has come up with Bounty Hunter Time Ranger for my first MD..I believe that they are no longer producing them so the price has been cut to $150 (Garrett Ace 250 @ $214) and the Bounty Hunter Quick Silver @ $175..I'm leaning toward the Garrett Ace but having trouble making my case as to why the Ace would be the best buy..can anyone help me....

I want to thank everyone who responded to my request for information concerning the differences of detectors and your personnel experiences with them...I decided to purchase the Garrett Ace 250 (that's the one I really wanted)..I found a source that included a carrying bag, headset, digging tool, a cover for the module (?) and cover for the head...I justified the extra cost with these extras..(total cost including shipping $214).now I'll have to find a strainer (for sand)and I should be ready to go...Will be in Florida after Christmas for 3 1/2 months and am really looking forward to trying this unit out on some of the beaches, and finding enough loot to pay for it (ha)...Again, I want to thank you one and all for taking an interest in someone who is trying to break into the art of metal detecting. I know I have much to learn and will undoubtfully be following the forum and asking you many questions...Again thank you very much...

Congrats, good decision!
For a cheap sand scoop check out this video, he's also a member here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnRVnONTpOI And then a few other videos from him to see it in action... Very cheap and very effective especially in fine sand. __________________ |
