Yeah, some people will need a new pair of those if they have a run in with a snake.

You might want to ask FL-Hunter for some extra equipment, in case things don't work out and the snake decides to catch you..

I know a guy in Destin FL, who is an Army Ranger, in his spare time he helps trap and gather non native species of snakes. He told me they are seeing alot of African species, and have also caught 2 Cobras. These are all being found in the wild! When I lived in Winter Haven Fl, I had a big black dude pop up out of the grass, and I swear to this day it fanned it's neck out like a cobra. Scare the S**T out of me! I have no use for snakes, period!

It was about 4am when I awoke to gun shots. My buddy yells (he is deathly afraid of snakes). Long story short, he went to use the bathroom in the house that was unfinished and when he opened the door, a huge Burm.Python was curled up in the house as he said, In attack mode. He plugged it with 15 rounds of .40 and it still would not die!

By the time I had gotten there, my other friend took it out with a machete to the head.

One of these days when I get my copy of the photos from that weekend, I will post it. We took all kinds of crazy photos on that one.

The next morning we could not figure out how to get it out of the house. It must have weighed 500lbs (just guessing). We wound up tying a rope around it and pulling it out with a Toyota pickup. What a mess that was. Ruined breakfast! That's why when I'm out in the Everglades from now on, I carry my pocket .410 revolver http://www.taurususa.com/gun-selecto....cfm?series=41 in addition to my Kel-Tec. Shotgun in your pocket! That's for the Python's!

BTW: Those snakes are not from here. People let loose their pets when they got too big out in the wild and they are taking over around here. Between them and the Giant lizards from hell, we are being over run by pre-historic left overs.
PICS!

Snakes are a different kind of treasure. As long as it's not a protected species in your state, then they are fair game. Kill them, skin them out, and sell the hide to people who make traditional long bows. They use them for backing on the bow. Those invasive species, such as the Burmese Pythons, are fair game as far as I know any where and I'm guessing that a bowyer would pay a decent price for a snake hide that big, especially if it was properly preserved.

Default Snake Repellant

Mix a spray bottle half and half with chorox and water. A squirt in the face will change their minds in an instant. Ammonia works well too.

I can tell you from experience, trying to shoot a snake with anything but a shotgun is not good idea if your going to try to kill it. I had a 9mm with 16 total rounds and only put 3 hole's in a big, big 6ft rattle snake in my neighbor hood, , but it was still in the move, we finaly got a shovel and cut it's head off. Only reason I even tried to shoot it was, there was a woman screaming at the top of her lungs for someone to shoot it, she thought it would get away and kill her baby (Which was inside at the time) Everyone was freaking out and I called the womans husban who was a co sherriff and he just said shoot the dam thing.

There is a BIG rise in BIG snakes coming up from the FL everglades traveling up and out of Fl thru the southern states. we are talking snakes as big as 20 feet or bigger involved here. FLorida wild life is trying to catch the big ones to keep people and their pet's safe.

Check out the history channel "Monster Quest" about the "Fl" snakes....you will be stunned at what you find out. I always carry a knife to cut a snakes head off in case of emergency.

Good post. All of us should renew our awareness concerns about snakes when md ing. The rattle snakes here in my part of Texas really start moving around and being aggressive in late summer. HH and be careful out there. I'm glad you didn't wind up being heart attack jack.
