Default minelabs ex 1000 tones for diferent objects sorta misleading?

i know what the distingt sound for a bottel cap(steel)is distinktly, and coins are unmistakabelly but these roumore of the sounds of gold seems to be the less pronounced sound it makes so i tested with a intermnitent sound with hard to discern with hitting gold or the unit trying to determine if it is going to discrimnate a peice of unwanted object.

I don't have an Excalibur but from reading other forums a low tone is a good thing for finding gold... Just go out and learn your machine and you will be fine. I think you are over analyzing.

Yes, take some time to learn the machine, to acquaint yourself with the tones, and you will do well. As Craig stated, gold produces a low tone, compared to coins for example. The tone on a gold piece tends to be smooth, having a nice sounding entry and exit, when compared to pulltabs. Very often pulltabs produce an abrupt ramp-up on the tone on entry or exit. It can be very subtle though, and only time and experience will help in isolating the difference. Still, I would dig any tone on the gold/pulltab range, since small rings are very difficult to tell apart from pulltabs.

I agree with Angel, good advice, Gold (yellow) has a mellow sound all of it's own and (white) Gold another. Once you dig a few Gold rings you'll never forget the sound! Listen for the faint deepies, go slow & low, zero discrim, zero notch, sensitivity around 10-11 o'clock on the dial. Bottle caps will have a bit of a burp sound in the signal unlike Gold rings. Good luck! H.H.:-)
