Default New User needing some help

Hi all, I just bought my first metal detector, a garrett ace250. I have been out three times so far and I think I am getting the hang of this but not sure.

I have found several pennies and a lot of tin. I find when I hit on tin or alumumin the meter jumps from nickel to dime then back to tin. Is this normal?

Also, I find that if the display stays steady on one item, say a dime, and I go to use the pinpoint button and sweep again I find it no longer stays on dime but acts like its tin or alumumin. And when I dig I find it is junk. Is this also normal. If it is then I won't dig when this happens.

Finally, I am having trouble with gold items. I have been practicing with a gold ring and nectlace It never hits on the same item on the display. Is this also normal and where should it be showing on the display.

Thanks in advance! This is a great site !
