Default Books...

Hi,

I am new to this hobby and in the process of purchasing my first detector. Now that it is winter, I may not have a lot of opportunities to use it for a while because of my location, cold Michigan. My question is, are there any good books, articles..... (I have heard of a few magazines on the market, however, I have not been able to get to a book store to pick one up yet) that I should read to get me ready for spring?
I also must tell you that I have never used a metal detecor before, this will be my first time.

Thanks,

Tom

One can get just about any book ever printed for free to read or very little cost from the public libraries. Ask them about the "interlibrary loan " system. No need to ever need a book that you would like to see.

Also, when I started detecting I devoured all books by Karl Von Mueller. Also known as Deek Gladson. He wrote the beginner's & advanced books on detecting many years ago. Steve in so az

I asked at my local "Books A Million", they didn't have any. I talked to the manager, the next month "Lost Treasure", "Western and Eastern", and "Silver and Gold" were on the shelf. I shook his hand and thanked him. He asked if I knew of any more to let him know.

Just ask, it works.

Thank you all for your responses!! You have given me some real good ideas on what and which author to look for. As with any of my hobbies, I like to read as much as possible about the subject.

Thank,

Tom

I found a website a while back that had some of his books for sale. Many are out of print now, but they had some left. If I can ever find it again, I'll PM you with the details. Amazon.com has always been my source for books, the magazines I either subscribe to or get at book stores.

As far as current good books: "Urban Treasure Hunter", "Detectorist" come to mind as being very good. Do a search on Amazon for books dealing with the history of your surrounding townships and communities. There is one publisher (Arcadia) who lists many thousands of these history references. I have found the photos and such as valuable in targeting specific areas.
