Mr. Booth should open a dealership in his town. Detectors and related gear would be flying off the shelf. At 35 a million and a half isn't enough to retire on these days.

Better then our gov't. They would take it all and give the finder nothing. At least across the pond, the finder gets market value in cash if the finds are to go to a musuem.

How ya figure? It's finders keepers here in the states. If you reported the cash gained from selling any of that here........well, that's all I have to say about that.
I do see your point about if it went to a museum here though. You probably wouldn't get squat, just a pat on the back.

Wrong. If you find anything that falls under the ARPA regulations (anything over 50 years old) you could very easily be in violation of the law, whether is came from public or private land. If the "wrong" people find out what you have recovered, they will sieze all your property and put you in jail if they feel like it.

This is the complete opposit of the British laws.

Don't believe me? go read the ARPA regulations yourself.

I believe ARPA regulations do not apply to finds in privately owned lands.
..to secure, for the present and future benefit of the American people, the protection of archaeological resources and sites which are on public lands and Indian lands, and to foster increased cooperation and exchange of information between governmental authorities, the professional archaeological community, and private individuals (Sec. 2(4)(b)).
The full text of ARPA, as subsequently ammended, can be found here. Of particular interest is Section 6.
Section 6
(a) No person may excavate, remove, damage, or otherwise
alter or deface or attempt to excavate, remove, damage,
or otherwise alter or deface any archaeological resource
located on public lands or Indian lands unless such activity
is pursuant to a permit issued under section 4 of this Act,
a permit referred to in section 4(h)(2) of this Act, or the
exemption contained in section 4(g)(1) of this Act.
Notwithstanding the above, some states may have enacted more restrictive statutes that extend into private lands, but they go beyond the Federal ARPA statutes.

So basically 90% of everything everyone recovers in here could be confiscated?
