Found this today at the grounds of an old Pioneer School. 7" down solid Qtr. signal. It is thin and light aluminum or tin? On the one side it says good for one soft drink on the other side it has oriental writing but not Chinese. Korean, Japanese or maybe Filipino? Any help would be great. I am sure it is old other items found were a 1919 wheat and old sterling ring and a 51 Rosie the school opened in 1901 closed in 1950. Thanks

Wow... that is cool! Wish I could ID it, but I've never seen one before.
We'll have to call in the FMDF Research Detectives!

I'm not an expert but I don't think it's Filipino. Tagalog uses
the same alphabet we do. It looks chinese to me. The wide "A" with the squiggly lines above it and to the left of it looks like the characters for "soft drink" Could be wrong. Didn't Chinese laborers work on railroads in those parts way back when? |

Not an expert by a long shot.....I have been digging around and think it's a prohibition era token....I have not seen any like this but have seen some other soft drink tokens similar in shape and style.....I could do a bit more if you could do a better etching of the "asian" characters.....try doing a slower rub on them or in a few different colors.....I am VERY curious as to what this is....great find none the less

I just checked with the author of the new (this year) book on Chinese-American tokens from the Pacific Coast and he translated the characters on the obverse as "One / Tenth / Dollar". I was hoping it would give some indication as to the issuer
He agreed that it was probably put into use shortly after Prohibition when saloons had to turn to selling just soft drinks. John in ID |
