Default Tesoro reviews ? Cibola, Gold Umax

I have been doing a lot of reading on all the units and I know that some reviews can be taken with a grain of salt but I have a question for some experienced guys.

Tesoro and the Cibola is a great example, over and over the Cibola is noted for its great depth, up the price ladder is the Tesoro Gold umax which comes with many adjustments that I think I may want but many reviews seem to fault the depth as a weakness ?

Is the Cibola better on depth with a cheaper price (and less adjustably) or does the Gold umax come with higher expectations of the users that paid more and maybe the same depth ?

This in some ways applies to all the detectors are they so electronically different as you go up the price line and get more features/adjustments that you can loose depth (and maybe other positives) by spending more
or if you know what you are doing with the more expensive unit you should get better performance and if you don't its most likely your own fault / or using in the wrong conditions

The Tesoro Vaquero fits in there also. I went with the Vaquero because of the manual adjustment on the ground balance. It has all the same features as the Cibola, and I like the pinpoint setup. This detector is light which is a plus.

Hi ded, I have a Tesoro Cibola and really love it. I don't know anything about the Tesoro Gold umax, but if it is made by Tesoro it is good. If you are not hunting in mineralize ground I think the Cibola is a better choice over the Vaquero, because if the Vaquero isn't ground balanced properly it will not work as good. Detectors with a manual ground balance adjustment is a good thing if needed and done correctly, but if not needed it is one less thing you have to play around with.
Here is some reviews:
Cibola http://metaldetectorreviews.net/dete...orocibola.html
Vaquero http://metaldetectorreviews.net/dete...1-vaquero.html
Golden uMax http://metaldetectorreviews.net/dete...oldenumax.html

My Cibola goes plenty deep enough, very light, uses one 9 volt battery, pinpointing is always dead on,by using the discriminate dial you get a real good idea of what your target is before you dig it. Once you get used to the Cibola you don't even need to use the pinpoint button, just Xing the target is enough. And last but not least don't forget about Tesoro's life time warranty. Steve.

The Cibola, Vaquero and Tejon are Tesoros latest detectors and have newer technology than the Golden.

More controls can be tricky. If yo learn how they work and set them correctly they can be an advantage such as manual ground balance. The Cibola and vaquero use HOT technology coils which are a cut above the older Golden coil.

Thanks guys,

I guess it would help if I knew more history, it would seem that they can outdate their own machines as they bring in the new models. I guess I had presumed that older model machines would be updated to the newer technology or they wouldn't be made any more. I think I have noticed in some models series I, II or other designations to show updates. It looks like it will be harder than I thought to buy a used or new unit and know what I am getting by the reviews unless I can use it first.

There really is no other way than using the machine for yourself. You can get a fair idea from reviews but people dont always see things the same way.Few have the priviledge of testing machines before they buy and even those reviews from those who do can be tainted with their own interests.Looking at a depth test site Im interested in either an adx 250 or an Eldorado u-max.Both come above expectations pricewise as regards depth.A larger coil also helps a lot.My Elite has improved 3-4 inches with a 14" coil fitted. Some people rave about the T2 over the F75 while others say the F75 is in a different class. You really do pay your money and take you choice.

When I was shopping for my detector, the Golden uMax and the Vaquero were in the same price range (actually, I think the Vaquero may have been cheaper). I asked the dealer, and he said that the Vaquero was better on depth, and had the manual ground balance. I think about the only extra feature offered on the Golden uMax was tone ID, which I thought may have been nice, but definitely not a deal maker/breaker.

I ended up with the Vaquero, and I'm happy with it. In this area, ground balancing capability is a plus. If your area doesn't have a big problem with mineralizes soils, the Cibola might do OK for you. I think it would be deeper than the Golden uMax.

Depth is nice, and the Golden , while not going to China, does manage to grab and ID coins. A friend and I were working a field where it was hard to get down to six inches above ground..He had a Golden, and hit an indian, my Vaquero picked off a shield nickel.. Both coins were at least an additional two inches down..In a field like that, I dig everything. With cut lawns, ID is nice and the Golden is pretty much on, up to about five inches.. Asking the Minelab guys about hitting a place like that, and even they admit it is tough searching..Cordially NAd
