There have been a few finds that will pop up and the declaration of Shenanigans has been proclaimed... There are alot of experienced detectorists on this site and it doesn't take long to figure out a fake. I prefer to believe the members are being honest and with this hobby...You just never know what you are going to find! Sometimes things get lost that don't belong anywhere near where you found them..ie old roman coins found in Michigan... That happened at the DFXonly hunt in a boyscout camp! We've come across some "borrowed" photos of finds that were "borrowed" from an ebay add or google image search... So, if someone wants to fudge reality and take the chance of being called out... so be it! It will be a whole lot less fun being nailed than celebrating an actual find!

I only read the first couple of replies, but I remember the one that was about a year ago on the same subject. C'mon, Why not ask these questions? We all know what the subject of our pics are supposed to look like, how comes every once in awhile we see a 'hmmm'? This little doubt may help keep the websites brethren more honest. Why not? Hoorah for the dirty 'real' warrior here and lets keep it that way. No posers here, please. Because we may know anyway. RW

I don't know how I missed this thread... But here are my two eaten Zincolns:
I've been a member of this site for a while now. The pictures posted by the "successful" hunters kept me going. They proved time and time again that "no place is ever hunted out..." (Okay, in reality a place can be hunted out because dropped coins is a finite number...) I owned an MXT for SIX MONTHS before I found my first silver coin. After that I started finding silver about 90% of the outings. I must of had well over the 100 hours of swing time that the experienced hunters say you need to be good when I found my first. If users didn't post awesome finds, they wouldn't be creditable sources of information on how to use an MXT or MD'ing in general. So today I am still excited to open up a hole and find a Merc or a Rosie at the bottom. I still get that rush. I just surpassed my 80th silver coin for this year. In contrast, I know guys in the MD club that haven't found a piece of silver in years with their MXT... The reason I post my finds is to show that new member with an MXT or a V3 that if they put the time in they can be successful too. It's not easy to stop, take a picture in the field, or prep finds for posting. I do it not for praises, but as a service of motivation to others (although I don't mind the praises )In the end, if I was motivated by somebody who posted fake finds, then good for me. I have a book full of silver coins and a box full of rings that makes me smile every time I get to add to my collection after a successful hunt... Cheers. -Mark BTW, here is one of the pictures I submitted to White's for the calendar...

Don't think anyone can post or keep up like Mark (Romeo), but he is so right on with the fact that practice and determination do pay off as my mxt has made old places new to me as well! I still am shocked when the beautiful color of silver comes thru and wonder why it has not been found! Persistence is the key and Mark perseveres!

As far as the rest of the forum members go, I believe them too. Some people here are retired, therefore have more time to MD, thus their chances increase exponentially over some one like myself that only gets out once every week or two. Secondly I live in a major city, that has seen hundreds of thousands of detectorist's, so many of the parks, churches, and schools have been cherry picked, and you have to work em harder. There places off the beaten path, overgrown etc that have not ever been MD'ed, and used to draw large groups of people together, the secret is finding such places. ANYTHING is possible to find, and I for one have yet to see something posted here that I find to be impossible. I have even taken some Forum Members from here to one of my sweet spots, and theyll all testify that whenever ten of us get together and go there someone if not all of us find silver. In fact Tigger the digger, and his son found more silver coins on our last outing than they had found ALL YEAR ![]() !! And 2 Newbies Found their First ever silvers, and Parrothead 56 found his First Gold Ring.![]() It just depends on where you hunt.
