Thanks, Simon!

I have posted my photos on the ABANA (Artist-Blacksmith's Association of North America) Forum located at www.abana.org to see if they can provide more info.

Post A Little More on the Context of the Find

This was a surface find in a residential yard in Pottstown, PA, just outside the city limits. Pottstown was founded in 1752 and was well known for its iron industry, after establishment of its first iron forge in 1714.

Question Colonial Pike?

It has been suggested, on a blacksmithing forum thread about this object, that at the start of the American Revolution, revolting colonials banged out pikes when guns were scarce. This could possibly be such a piece?

Possibly a letter-opener? Decorative design, wide base so you could actually stand it up on a desk. Maybe??? Spear point? Kind of looks like those Spanish spear points from the old movies. Very cool regardless!

Not a bad idea, Squishy. I think it would make a cool letter opener. Nobody would bother you while you're opening the mail either.
