Default Just got my detector back ... ?!?

OK ... paranoia is setting in. I'm contemplating what detector I should be looking at in the future and want to make the right decision. Very often here on the forum I see posts that contain the words "Just got my detector back from (MFG) ... and they did a great job fixing it".

I've never seen any reviews that rate which brand (or more importantly what model) has the most returns for repairs or deficiency's and was wondering if anyone has any statistics on that ... I don't imagine they would be very easy to come by.

I used a Whites Classic ID 1-year no problems, Then Whites XLT 6-7 years I never sent it off cause my warranty expired, There pretty simple to work on-I replaced 1-Arm Rest, 1-Lower Rod, 2-Pin Pointer Triggers, 1-Touch Pad, 1-Main Screen (Poked a tree limb threw it) Dang now that I think about it that thing was like new... Now for the last Year I've used a Minelab Explorer ll with (0) Problems so far "Knock On Wood"....Don't Know if this is the INFO your looking for but is the best I can do.

Most problems are due to owner misuse..... rarely a factory problem. The best customer service I know of is White's, although I have heard very good reports about Garrett's. RickO

Yes ... I can accept normal wear-and-tear on a unit that was quality built to begin with ... my primary concern is with the "things" you can't see ... the electronics. I don't want to invest in something that has electronics that at best will last the life of the warranty ... especially if I have $1.2k-$1.5k invested. Interesting stuff // Thanks

I treat all my detectors like a baby, Very gentle and never misuse...There kinda like cars no matter if you buy a Cadillac or a Geo eventually there gonna wear out...Most higher end detectors are built alittle better, But with all the complicated circuitry cost more to replace parts...Any Higher end Whites, Minelab, Tesoro or Garrett would be a great detector.

I have owned Garretts for a couple of years now and I have never had to have mine repaired. Saying that, I have had the opportunity to deal with the Garrett support team on other than repair items. And they have been very pleasent to deal with.

I've owned mostly White's for the last 20 years. I sent my Eagle Spectrum in for a freshing up after 5 very hard years of use and was very happy with the service. I sold the Eagle after having it 18 years with no issues. I've owned 3 DFX's, the oldest is 5 years old, and I got 1 that has a weak display on the far right on a hot day. I had plans to send it in over the winter, but it's been warm enough to hunt so it's still in use.
