Sunday we went to Sunnyside grade school looking to find the first gold of the year. While I found 4 rings none were gold. John found a very small 10k gold ring giving him first gold of the year. We pulled a total of 7 rings Sunday from the grade school. We were all using my tot lot program and ring system. These are all coming from a dirt field behind the school with 2 old baseball diamonds. All of my rings were in bad shape.

Awesome! Sunday was a nice day over our way and must of been good in Dodge. That is awesome you can find that much good stuff. I assume the program is something you set up in your machine and not a step by step "where and how to hunt?"

The system is quite simple really using this program. It uses tone ID but you can turn it off if you like. I use it everywhere I hunt now because I've gotten used to the sounds. If you haven't found multiple rings at your local schools or parks it's because you're missing them. Parks are not as easy as schools because parks have far more trash, and a greater variety. Once you get to a site dig everything with a solid signal until you know what the common junk(pull tabs mostly) reads on the VDI. For me 80% of the time those rectangle tabs read a VDI of 21 or 46. The beaver-tail pull tabs read 26. Once you know what that pull tab reads, ignore that number. Sounds simple right? It really is. What I watch for is the odd VDI readings. Any number but 26 and 46. 21 is to common of a number for medium gold rings, so I dig them even though they can be a pull tab, but ONLY if it's a solid 18-21. If it goes to 22, ignore it. Another thing I've noticed, at least for me, which is contrary to what you read most of the time, is that many rings won't have a consistent VDI except for a wedding band. Pull tabs, on the other hand, if they are not real deep, have a pretty consistent VDI. Really it amounts to digging all the odd VDI's and ignoring what you've learned are the tabs or most abundant trash. __________________ Last edited by Detector; 01-13-2009 at 01:29 PM. |
