Default Idea for the new year

Why not make a New Year's resolution to take most dug junk home to check out before tossing. Things that are obvious, like pull tabs , can be tossed in the trash any time.
A good example of something valuable that was almost tossed is the C in my CW fort display.
<center>
I had searched a certain fort for many years, trying to get a complete set of insigna from there. I knew that Division 1, Company C & K were stationed there from research. Early on I dug the K but the C eluded me. Then one trip I dug a bent up piece of "junk". It looked just like a pull tab that had been bent up, what with the curved body and all. But it was a little different plus there were almost no pull tabs found over the years. So I put it in my pouch and when at home checked it and other stuff.
Imagine my surprise when I carefully opened it and found the C !
So maybe keep in mind that things can be tossed out at home as well. Steve in so az

Default great advice

Heavymetalnut can relate first hand with that military piece from an old shako hat he found this year.i've had the same thing happen as well , i dug up what looked like a scrap of brass and imediately shoved it in my junk side of my pouch but later before i just emptied it into the garbage , i check each piece and came across a Spanish American War peace medal a little bent up , i straighten it out and its a very nice piece and i've been saying ever since now "throw nothing away until you can positively identify first".Dan

Wise advice. I've thrown away a couple of bits of "junk" in the past, which on reflection, I wish I hadn't.

Good idea...I was taking one last look at a necklace that had been in my "interesting junk" box for about a year..had just thrown away a couple of other items as I cleaning the box out...I spotted something written real small on the clasp; got out the magnifying glass..." Italy .925"...never hurts to be "absolutely" sure
