Default Preserving a WWI Pin

I found this interesting WWI pin (you can look at a picture of it on the "mind blowing eye popping" finds page in this forum. I wonder if anyone has suggestions for cleaning or preserving. I dont want to damage it at all due to its uniqueness. Thanks
