Default Hi everybody.

Hi everybody. I just got my first detector last week. White's DFX. I spent some time using my friends sovereign (sp?) and thought it was about time to get my own. I found a wheat penny in my yard after about 2 minutes of detecting the first day the DFX showed up. I've been too busy with work to get out much so far. But I did get a '44 Mercury dime on Thursday. My first! No pics yet but it sure came out of the ground all shiny. I hope to learn some stuff here on the forum.
Mike

Welcome to the forum... and great start.. the DFX is an incredible machine... certainly top shelf.... works well with 'out of the box' programs... but can be tweeked/re-programmed for any parameters you need. Incredible versatility... suggest you also freqent the forum www.dfxonly.com Many seasoned DFX users and experts frequent that site (some of the same here as well)... so advice and help is readily available... Hi and welcome Mike. I am also rather new here. I recently found a 64 Quarter and it was as black as can be. Wonder why your old Merc was shiny. Any thoughts?

The soil where I was detecting has alot of clay. That might be the difference.

Welcome from Kansas, Mike. I have a DFX as well, and have only been MDing a few months, but I still haven't found any old coins. You have me beat already! Hope you enjoy the forum.

Most silver coins come out of the ground without much discoloration, but if they are by pine trees or in water, they tend to turn black.

Been working too many 3-11's and midnight shifts to get any MD'ing done. I plan on heading to my grandma's house next weekend. Build in 1908 and never detected before.

Default Welcome!

I've been searching my yard (.8 acres), surrounded by woods and fields....to date, I've found a deck screw, several pieces of scrap roofing material, some rusted iron trash, a couple bottle tops, and a can! LOL Maybe it's time to leave the yard behind!
