I have a V i b r a -P r o b e 570 and love it. Its water proof, the battery lasts for months and finds the goodie in the hole or dirt pile quickly. My hunting buddy uses a Whites Bullseye and he likes it.
Like you, I had the same question before aquiring one. Glad I chose to spend a bit more on a quality unit. Good luck and hope you find a unit to your liking. __________________ |

If cost is a factor, you might want to try a Automax Precision Pinpointer. You can find them for $50 or less. They are a little large ( 18" overall length) but they seem to work ok.

I have a Vibra-Probe and two Bullseye II's (wife MDs too).
The VP, being a PI device is a bit different from the Bullseye. It (VP) only detects from the tip and will stop vibrating once it hits a target...until you pull it away. The BEII's detect from the tip and an area surrounding the first inch or so up the shaft (poor sentence structure, that). The VP has a bit more "depth" and is ideal for a quick find of targets that are just under the surface...no hole to dig, just separate the grass, etc. The BEII is MUCH more delicate than the VP. The BEII probes will break off rather easily. That's not to say you can dig with the VP, but I've shoved quite a bit of dirt out of the way without a problem yet. The VP has no switch...just turn it upside down to activate and it turns off one minute after its last "buzz". It's a bit of a pain to store in my MD bag...gotta make sure it's not pointing up when you store the gear. I actually (believe it, or not) heard mine buzzing at midnight last week as it turned itself on and off because of its stored position. I carry both on my belt and like em both...picking the "right" one for the particular "dig". All that said, if I was going to only carry ONE...it would be the VP. (I know this post rambles...please pardon.) __________________ |

Yeah I really need to get one of those. All the time I spend searching in a hole takes too much out of me. A probe would be great. I need to really find a good one too so thanks for posting this in the forums

The one I have has a switch that allows you to hunt with an audio "beep" or in vibrate mode. It also has a rotary sensitivity setting, similar to a threshold on a metal detector. It will detect a Buffalo Nickel at about 1 1/4" away. A dime and a quarter at about one inch.

Under a hundred huh? Look on eBay for used Vibra-Probes... a few models should come up.
