Default Robbed in Plain Sight (By UPS)

I almost fainted when the lady at UPS rung up the total of a package for me today. I sold my Minelab Musketeer Advantage so I would be able to afford a larger chainsaw, I use usps priority mail about 99.9% of the time but the fella that bought my detector rather I didn't use usps as he had a bad experience. I told him no big deal I could run into town and ship it by way of UPS. The package weighs 10.6 pounds and is going to Florida from New York, they charged me $46.01 and the expected delivery date isn't until next Tuesday. Luckily I found a decent used saw (Stihl MS-250)($199.95) at the chainsaw shop. Never again will I use UPS. I have never had a problem using usps other than their online tracking system isn't worth beans.

Sounds like you got ripped off buddy. I would email UPS (headquarters) with what you were charged, because it only costs me $26.00 to send Lobo ST's back and forth to Arizona. Something sounds really wrong there!

A few years ago I bought a detector from a fella in Hawaii and it was shipped priority usps mail to me and didn't cost that much.

I just called the main UPS number, I had to guess the package dimensions (I had a good idea the measurements) I knew the weight, she told me a package that weight & size should of been $100.00 and change. I told her that I will be using usps from now on.

Did an online calculation for prioroty mail to send a metal detector I just sold on ebay.

The total came to $16 and some change, this was AFTER entering dimensions, weight etc, AND I even added 2 lbs MORE than it actually weighed.

They calculated it at $16 ONLINE, but, when I got there the lady quoted me over $30! This was USPS!

She claimed "Thats before the meaurement... UMMM< I added dimensions ONLINE when they calculated it...online... wth?

If you sent this from a UPS facility, you got ripped off. I once took a box to PakMail to ship UPS and it was more than double the price from an actual UPS facility.

what you really need to know is the UPS Store is not UPS. If you pay for insurance they will not pay they have an option. Only if they package it will they pay. I filed a lawsuit and got the local news involved when I made a claim on a broken 2000 dollar pellet gun. The UPS Store refused to pay and UPS is not responsible. The owner told me she never wanted to see me again. I never got anything out of them.

Between what they charged me and hearing what happened to you puts the icing on the cake about me never using them again. P.S. you would of thought that the lady at the UPS store that gave me the shaft would at least had a smile on her face, she was a real unfriendly so and so .

I agree, next time you sell something put in the ad that you only ship USPS. Or you can offer them the option of pre-paying for shipping if they prefer a different shipper. That's what I will do in the future.

Not to keep dwelling on the this subject but I forgot to mention that when I try to track the package with the tracking number I get this message - Your search - 1Z8RV070316732*** - did not match any documents. First time I have never had the tracking number not work with the few times I have used UPS. I even double checked the number and had my daughter (better eyes than mine) read if off to me to make sure I had it right.

I mail out 30 or 40 packages every week, 95% are USPS

what you guys need to realize is that the DIMENSIONS of the box affect the price of the package just as much (more sometimes) that the actual weight does

you'll be charged the "dimensional weight" instead of the actual....UPS does it, USPS does it, they all do it

depending on the size of the box $46 or so is not unreasonable for sending a metal detector as far as it had to go

Once went to ship a large heavy box of brake parts to Canada and the "UPS outlet store" wanted to charge me $150!!! Went to a REAL UPS store and it was indeed half that cost.

Yeah, I know, they charged me 11lbs dimensional weight for a 3.5lb detector at $30 to ship.
What I don't get is that on their online calculators, they ask the weight and they say nothing about dimensional weight in the final calculation.

The costs never coincide with the online price and the store price when you take the item in. It's always been like $10 more for me :/
