Default To dig or not to dig...

Two instances I'm not sure to dig or not.

- I sometimes get a hit that is different on each swing. It will consistently say dime ( discovery 2200) when the coil goes from left to right but the coming back right to left will read iron. X pattern up and down will have the same results or sometimes a totally different reading.

- Ill get a good hit in coin range but can't get it to repeat. Upon going all metal ill get a solid iron signal with the occasional coin reading. In this scenario sometimes the faint sporadic coin tone will be deeper or shallower than the consistent iron signal. X pattern doesn't change reading.

Probably not coins but could be jewelry, relics or just odd-shaped junk. I would dig them to find out.

Agreed! Some of my best finds were beneath iffy signals. I dig anything that sounds even remotely interesting.

Yeah, I've been digging them but they have been random trash. Don't mind digging trash, but wanted to make sure there was a reasonable hope on those signals.

I'd say that about 95% of my iffy signals are trash, BUT just when I'm about to give up on digging them I'll get a pleasant surprise!

For me it depends on whether the start of the day, or 6 hrs later. And it also depends if it's an easy dig, and how courious I happen to be at the moment. It my ProPointer can sniff it out at the surface, I know I can pop it out easy. If the machine says it's 8" deep......forget it.

It is better to dig than not to.In case it turns out to be junk,at least
you will walk away with no doubts in your mind what
you could have left behind

Every field we havnt hunted has priate treasure in, every target we didnt dig is certain gold, every none vdi sound is certain deep gold or silver or ancient coins.

We always question ourselves, one reason we dig hundreds of holes in a days hunting and bring back 99% junk but only gave up cos it got dark, we needed food or our batteries got flat.

We are forever hopeful over what we're about to dig and forever doubtful about what we didnt dig

You never know for sure till you have your eyes on the target.

It also depends where i'm digging. If i'm at an old abandon lot i'll dig deep, but at a city park I wont. So YES dig those iffy signals. My first iffy signal netted me my first barber dime.

I guess sometimes an iffy signal could come from an iron target
and a non-iron target together.For instance,a bronze buckle with
an iron pin .In this case,if the non-iron piece is larger than the iron
target your MD should mostly show a "good target/signal"
My ACE250 often shows at the display an iron target and iron sound too,
mixed with a good high tone. But if you look at the display,it shows different
depth bars at the depth scale. I should then think there are two different
targets at the same hole, but one is deeper than the other.
Should I be wrong, someone please correct me .

Just a repeat of advice above, dig it to know it.
That said, I have used a compass XP Pro and there are times
When it will show penny one way and iron from the other
Direction. Usually it will be several inches deep and will be
In clay, usually red. When I dig them, they are almost always
A penny. Your machine may be different, just dig it to know it.

If in doubt dig it out... "Absolutely"
Those iffy sounds could be anything from barbwire to old gold pocket watch chain.
You just have to make that call, either dig it, or move on and think about it the rest of the day. I rather dig it up and have a peace of mind.

Just start reading the valuable finds posts-invariably one starts out like this, "I was about to ignore the signal, but something made me dig....."
