Nice finds this time man! You get a new machine? Seems you're getting lucky. Possibly going up there in a week or so I'll tell ya if I go and maybe we can do some detecting...if I go

This has to be one of the more interesting posts on this forum. It has it all...drama, suspense, buried treasure, history, surprises....only thing missing now is the happy ending. Keep digging!!

Thanks for keeping it rolling.

Amazing story. I sure hope it eventually has a happy ending. I can't wait to see a pic of the treasure after you finally wrangle it from the ground after all these years. I know over the years the memories we have as kids get blury and the little details fade away. Maybe you burried it in a totally different spot than you remember.

On a side note, it looks like that is one heck of a yard for detecting. Wheats, Mercs, and Indians!

I certainly hope that I can find it soon..... This has been a borderline obsession for more than 5 years now.

There is a TON of junk in the yard... It has been a long, ardous process - but I am hopeful that all the hard work will pay off in the end. I have found some nice coins and interesting relics along the way - and I am now addicted to md. So, it has paid off already, just hoping to find what I lost.

Hey MisterSilver - nope I did not get a new machine, I just haven't had much time to search lately (back issues). Anytime you are in the area, feel free to let me know.

Cool tank! I had one almost identical to it as a kid. Even had plastic antennas...the .50 cal in the turret was plastic also.

LOL! I have tried the "probe til you find it" method with no success. I will be upgrading to a Minelab E-Trac soon...

I have thought of this, and I have inquired about pricing.

$500 for 1/2 a day, $1000 for a full day - which really did not appeal to my frugal nature.

Know of any kind people who have a gpr unit I could borrow????

As stated, this is one heck of a thread. Very interesting. I'm thinking it's still there and based on all the stuff you've been getting out of the ground, you could have walked over it a dozen times. It'll be a weak signal for sure. Earphones only type deal. Depending on the "mass" or surface areas that the coins are presenting to the coil..... it's very possible to find it. What a great thing to have in our arsenal of "things to do".
Good luck.

If you called in the guys from the digger show...they would show up with a backhoe and dynamite.

This is a great post and I wish you the best in finding your treasure. If you buy the Etrac you will definitely gain depth over the Garrett. I admire your persistence. I helped look for some gold coins that an elderly lady had buried in her back yard. The first time I went, I had an Etrac and the second time I had a XP Deus. I was unable to find the coins but they were supposed to be buried 2 feet deep. GPR would have probably been the only hope and like you I do not think the family was willing to pay the fee.

I think it depends on how big the yard is and if it is worth it to use one. If it is a big yard then I would rent a GPR for half a day and use it..heck you may find something you weren't even aiming worth a lot. You never know...

Hey fellows,

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I have not been able to md much lately (just bought my first house, moving in, working to afford it - haha). I did get out for a about 2 hrs this weekend, and instead of hitting where I believe this box is - I decided to get frisky and beep the front yard.

I tried some different settings on the Ace 250, and it seemed to pay off. I found 2 wheats (1919 & 1927) and my second silver (1944 Mercury)! Seeing that shine down in the dirt really is exciting!!!

My wife is buying me an E-Trac soon and hopefully, with some luck, I will find it in the near future. I'll keep you posted! HH and thanks for reading

If it hasn't been mentioned, you could try a metal probe to see if you can feel the box lid.
