Default A quick tip I haven't seen mentioned

Here is a little tip / trick I haven't seen posted here. You know when your put swinging your detector, you got a good rhythm going and then you get one of those iffy, borderline signals. Could be junk, could be something good. VDI is jumping around, your having trouble pinpointing it, and in your head your asking yourself, " Self, do I really want to spend the next 5 or more minutes chasing around what might be nothing?" Well this is what I've been doing. I keep a 5 or 10 fluorescent golf tees in my pocket. When I hit one of these targets if I don't feel like digging it at the time I will mark it with one of the golf tees and come back to it. This gives me the opportunity to see how the rest of the area is and gives me a more educated guess later as to wether that target is worthwhile to dig or not. Also if I'm using the larger coil on the AT Pro and I do decide to come back to dig that target I can switch to the smaller 5x8 coil to Make isolating and pinpointing the target a lot easier. The golf tees can also be used to help keep your lines straight when you are grinding an area. I hope these tips are helpful to some of you!
Peace & Happy Hunting!

If you are using a larger coil, check the depth before switching back to a smaller coil. You may not be able to get a reading on a deep coin sized object.

That is a good tip. I would not have thought to even look for a tip like that. I am still practicing in the yard and have run into some of those iffy signals. One did yield a quarter but only from 1996.
Just keep on swinging

I used golf tees when I started detecting. Sometimes they can be hard to see so I would paint them with a turquoise blue nail polish. That color seemed to stand out more. Using them to grid the area is a great idea. Take a photo after you have them all in. If you want to get a little OCD like me, number the tees and record what find came out with the tee #. I started to do that when I got the at pro so I could record VDIs. It was a fun learning experience.

Excellent and simple idea!!

The places I've been going to have been too thick for golf tee's. A small flag might fix my marking issues!

In todays age can't you hit the GPS on your phone or handheld to log the spots Lat/Long creating a chain you can then retrace?

Sure if you have one of those "brainy phones" you can. I still have a stupid phone though, it costs me at least $30 less a month than the brilliant phones cost. So I use bright orange golf tees! $5 a bag and reusable! I am a cheap bast*rd!

cutting tennis balls in half work as well. a little larger and wont get lost within blades of grass. They stack up nice and ten halves fit nicely in a jacket pocket.
