This is simple fellas. Become a shareholder of the bank's common stock. You as an investor have a say in what that institution does with its holdings, property and other assets (albeit small and likely insignificant...) Besides I guarantee you they are MUCH less likely to treat a shareholder as a criminal. Bad PR.

I know there are some locations that are very temping ,and would seem harmless for u to hunt , but I would call the bank just to cover your butt just in case, sometime property owners get a little nervouse over liability issues, heck it's worth a try , they just might give u the green light , good luck..

Good call. Hopefully it is a bank that you have an account with. Being a longtime customer cant hurt.

I wouldn't consider anything fair game without permission.

I stopped lurking to post this.

In the late 80s, my family was involved in a lawsuit because a distant relative was deer hunting on a tiny bit of farmland my dad inherited and hurt himself. What ended up being the key in this case is that we were unaware he was there. As I understand it, if we knew he was there, we were accepting liability. I may be wrong. I was pretty young. I'm no fan of the current court culture, but I can see the bank/owner point-of-view in this case.

I never ended up even giving a call. A few days after this post the for sale signs went down and a temporary fence went up. I guess I'm glad I didn't trespass and get caught while they were putting that up.

There is not a problem with the officers or the bank because it is the public property and they have to follow the rules. Whether you buy land or any public property you have to deal with them.

Property is usually posted no trespassing because they do not want people deer hunting on it, going inside abandon houses, or suing of injuries that occur on it. Do you think the Sandlot kids asked permission?

Use your discretion just like I do when speeding. Some states have stricter statues on tresspassing. The police would probably put a low priority on a call about someone metal detecting a vacant lot...especially in a area where they are more concerned about narcotic sales, murder, and prostitution... In a better neighborhood they may come right out.

Whether you get asked to leave depends on whether someone nosy sees you, and that can depend on the area. Come to think of it, it is usually a nosy neighbor that thinks that you are getting rich, and is jealous that asks you to leave without any authority. This happens in public places that you are allowed to detect as well.

Cover your holes and a reasonable amount of trash in addition to that you dig.
If in New Jersey don't get caught trespassing! They'll throw you in jail, make you stay there for 2 weeks, wash there dam cars and trucks, Feed you carp! and then let you go with no money & the crabs!....

When I hunt I always pick up ground trash with a trash bag in hand. If someone give you a hard time be "Apologetic" and tell them you'll leave right away! Then hand them the bag of trash. This signals goodwill. "yeah that guy is always picking up trash I seen him before"

Guys, I would hunt the sidewalk strips which is considered a city right away and not worry about a thing. Just do not go into the yard.

That's what I have done when I see foreclosed homes. Never had the police called on me(the ones that drive by on patrol never even stop) and even BS'ed with some neighbor's now and then.

I got kicked off the strips one time as the business bought everything to the street so the strips were now private property(who knew!). All bulldozed, and to think how many coins were tarred over

It is pretty straight forward. If it is posted then your are automatically guilty of trespassing without debate.

Without a sign, you might be given the benefit of the doubt if it is reasonable. Such as going beyond the boundary of a public park which is not clearly delineated. However in this case, you do not own the property and do not have permission, so it would be hard to argue that you were unaware that you were trespassing.

In addition to trespass, you would be guilty of theft by taking, if you removed items from the premises without the owners permission. When you purchase a property, you are purchasing a "bundle of rights." And those rights include keeping people off your property and from taking items from your property whether it be in your garage or minerals/coins in your yard.

It is red herring to suggest that somehow a bank owned property is similar to a public park. Without the banks permission, you are trespassing. If your ethical standard is whether you would get caught or not, then why don't you rob the bank instead.

Brian

No your state laws. They vary from state to state. This post I quoted is no where near the definition of trespassing in my state. Lots of states have it clearly marked that it is not trespassing unless the property is marked with no trespassing a signs. (sigh)

THEY, the banks, basically, for the most part, get a slap on the wrist and billions to get rid of THEIR greediness and WE the individual people get hog tied, drawn, and quartered!!! I FULLY understand that it was done so that the U.S. does NOT have an eventual "crash"... I UNDERSTAND THAT... BUT... it still goes back to basically what 40acre is talking about.

HH \_ people

BTW... "I" would still get permission because it is NOT worth getting a possible track record... but YES, "screw the banks"...
