Default What kind of things could I find in gold country

I just got my AT PRO and I'm really excited to use it at my families land but right now it's very hot and the ground is very hard so I've been doing some research. Was curious as to what you guys think could be there, maybe someone has detected at familiar places.

It's about 15 acres with the tuolomne river running through it, also has a water hole that people have been swimming in since the gold rush, something else that I thought was cool is there is a wall running the span of the property that was built by the Chinese during the good rush. I'm going to get some more information but just wanted to hear what some of you long timers think might be there or any advice.

Thanks, I'll post some pics too

If you get some solid facts about nuggets you might consider the super sniper, the at pro should find smaller nuggets (maybe not as good as prospecting detectors)...i havnt dont any prospecting with mine but ive seen enough shows to not worry about hard dirt because those slippery salt n papper nuggets find the lowest point they can so look in the cracks of river rocks, under the rocks..places that gold could get trapped in...one show they used a garage vac and scraped the cracks in the rocks loose then vaccumed them up and then put them on the sluice but you could try that with a super sniper...the at gold should be slightly better having a higher frequency but 15mhz should be good with larger nuggets.

I'd call up some of the sponsors and talk to them about the SS and see whats the best idea...the SS is about $100 which is a lot to just do it occaisionally

Well you can find anything from tools to personal items lost long ago. You never know that is what is great about this hobby.

There is also the dynamite option...some 'diggers' swear by it..usually 'BOOM BABY!"....or if a back hoe cant ripe up that dirt then try a rotivator...the home owners will love you for it....dont worry about permission..they will only refuse..let them see your finds from their property first...i swear you'll get an unforgetable response

Let me detect it first and then I could give you a clue with all the things I find! Just Teasing! You have got a dream waiting to come true their buddy. If you are new at this just dig every signal and have fun unearthing those treasures!

Hi everyone, well I was up there with the family this weekend and only had an hour to detect. Definety not enough time to even get comfortable with my AT pro but it was amazing how well the detector works, I went down by the watering hole and there is a small section with sand, first signal was 88 and 6 inches, I dug and couldn't find anything but used the pinpointer and at 5 inches heard it ring, found a dime, was only a 1965 but I can't tell you how excited my family and I were, my inlaws thought i was silly posing with the dime for pictures.

I was curious if anyone would like to help me, in exchange for showing me some tips on how to use the AT pro you can come detect on the property with me. I feel like there is so much for me to learn and if I have someone experienced I will learn much quicker.

The area is so big and I just have no idea were to start or even how to pinpoint, I found some good signals but didn't want to try and dig since the ground was so hard. The watering hole would be really fun to detect in but it's really deep right now, maybe 10-15 feet, I can only imagine some of the things lost in there over the years.

Well let me know if anyone is interested, I would love to make some new friends in this hobby, also if ya know anything about dredging too, the previous owners of the property left a big setup, looks like the only thing missing is a motor, I know that's way off topic but I just thought I would mention it, would be fun to dredge the watering hole.

How far from San Fran are you? I'll be out there the first part of next month. Wasn't going to bring the detector, but if it's close enough for a day trip the ATP could ride along.

That's about 130 miles from San Francisco, so probably a little farther than a day trip. Close though!

Sounds like a really great place to hunt. I'd be up for it. I'm new to detecting and I swing an AT pro myself. I've been at it a little over two months now. I'm no pro, but I feel that I'm doing pretty good with it. I'm itching to water hunt with the ATP.

I'd love to join you just about any weekend that I don't have to work. I'm a few hours away, but that does not bother me. I drive for a living.
Thanks

I just sent you a private message with some information. Thanks.

While you may find relics , coins, and gold , you may also find gemstones . If your in area that was volcanic, or near fault lines, other precious metals or gemstones might be around. These form do to heat, pressure, and combinations of minerals. Where I live garnets can be found. Keep eyes peeled whille Md-ing.

I would love to come and hunt that area sometime, but I don't swing a AT Pro. I have an E-Trac so I wouldn't be able to help you at all. My best advice would be to dig every signal that isn't iron. You'll have it figured out soon enough. You'll probably dig a bag of trash and a pocketfull of treasure.
I've been detecting every spare moment I get for 2 1/2 years and I still dig a bag of trash for every pocket full of treasure
I usually know when I'm digging trash, but have been pleasantly surprised many times. Good luck!!!

Default sonoran detecting

Hey Baw, i like your pictures, i know its pretty exciting finding something as mundane as a dime-especially if its your first find. I think you said that was very first find? If so thats awesome, i dug a lot of trash before i found anything worthy.

You might have a pretty sweet area, not only for old coins but for gold as well. Ive found some of both up here in Jackson. If you are interested in finding stuff out there the key is to put in the time detecting- the more you swing the more you will find. you're place does indeed sound like a dream.

to all members-sorry for bumping this to the beginning, im soooo embarassed. i was meaning to pm the poster

I'd check with the historical society, and see what info you can come up with. Seems like calvary, indians, gold, settlers....Your in the mother Lode area for gold. Visit the library for info too. Good luck and show us what you find...oh yes, dredging is illegal, even on your old property...that's why the guy left it for you...lol ATPro is pretty much turn on and go. Watch some video's on the Pro. Google ATPro video...That's how I learned mine...
