Default What do you do when you really want to show your finds but know you shouldn't?

...Otherwise you might be giving too much away.

One of the hardest things for me has been to hold back on showing some of my finds on forums and to friends. The better I get at finding valuables, the more discrete I get, or want to get. I've had a good week detecting, there's a lot of things I want to show and tell... not just yet I suppose.

How many here are hot on being discrete? Sometimes I'm surprised to find out how much some know about what I've written online. There's some very competitive detectorists out there, especially where I live.

If you feel a little wierd then create a new name for showing your finds that doesnt have your location on it, just your state....then answer questions on techniques but not locations, show the items but not the landscape of where you found them and state in your profile you dont do sharing or group hunting...theres no rule saying you should..if you find a honeyhole then its your find....its a personal thing.

I think it is different for everyone. I for one love to share. I share my spots and also my finds with my friends. We have a team of 5 or so guys who get together and love to hunt. For me, it doesn't bother me if one of my buddies finds something.

There are others who prefer to hunt on their own and keep things to themselves. There is nothing wrong with that either. It just comes down to what you are comfortable with I guess. Personnally I like giving something as much daylight as possible after it has been in the ground 50+ years.

Ship them to me. I will let you know which ones to post, and which ones not to.

I don't post my finds usually. If I found a hundred pounds of gold, you'd never know

I don't post on location shots anymore if it would be an easy spot to figure out where it was.... No reason to give away locations....

I post everything and just try to not give too many details about locations, etc.

I post my good stuff, but rarely a location.
If I ever find a cache...never.

Unless you're talking thousands of dollars you're playing too big of a head game with yourself. You didn't say what you think could happen if you post them?

I'm torn on this one. So far I'm keeping things to myself I guess as far as showing photos. I'm happy to say I've found gold or silver jewelry but not posting photos of them. As for coins, those I would post photos of ever find anything I thought was special or interesting.

I would only let those that you trust know. If someone doesn't know you, or where you live, feel free as well.

Don't go advertising you have valuables to bad people, and dont brag to everyone how much you have.

I post all my good finds. Not that many to worry about but I'll never tell where cause there are too many people on here from my area and my friend and I are cleaning up after them since their machines are not as good ( or they dont know how to use them good enough) and we are picking up lots of stuff they leave behind in the 6-10" range. Good things as well. So yeah, I post all my good things and even some average stuff.

I post about half of what I find for various reasons. Don't want to give things away sometimes ; sometimes I get lucky on gold over a period of time but don't want to sound like I am bragging; lots of competition here, steve in so az

I often show pics of finds & locations thru a 200+ page metal detecting scrapbook.

Example:

Notice the paper clip at the top?
I scanned it that way for a reason.
That's the address of where the photo was taken.
Here's another......

It was scanned leaving the address off the top of the page.
It's just safer excluding such info....

I'm not interested in where others are hunting.
I'd love to see locations, but when it comes down to it,
I'd rather see what others are finding .....see ya yardhunter

Yardhunter: Very nice notes! I've been keeping track of my finds alot more this year, nice to be able to look back and know what the conditions were and when the good finds started showing their faces...
