Default Need help ! PLEASE ADVISE .

I am getting back into metal detecting and i am looking for new gear.
im obviously from ohio and most of my hunts will be on land. with the occasional trip to a lake or a vacation to the beach. I am most interested in hunting for coins. and jewelry (silver/gold). And maybe any backyard relics.
now i know that this is kind of general information. I know there is no such thing as a best detector. I have been looking at a few models and i would like some advise from anyone who has experience.

I am looking at :
whites m6 or mxt or possibly the vx3 or dfx
tesoro cortes.
fisher f70 or f75
minelab explorer se pro or xterra 705 or safari
fisher f5
Garrett at pro
teknetics t2

any information would be greatly appreciated.

f70 or at pro. higher frequency will help on gold and both very well rounded will at little better in water.

My honest opinion would be the AT Pro since you mention a trip to the water. The AT Pro with both coils is a wonderful machine. It is easy to learn with. From the AT Pro you can make the leap to a top of the line unit if you decide that the hobby is for you. The AT Pro can hunt with ant other detector out there in my opinion. Some top of the line models offer more bells and whistles and maybe a little more depth. But not much.

Whites all the way... All of them are good. At is good as well but... I hate cheap looking plastics. Whites are build to last you a lifetime.

I have read lots about the at pro having lots of problems. but i have also read that garrett may have worked out the bugs.

I am very interested in whites. I had an mxt pro and was forced to sell it due to financial situations. But i am back on track ready to purchase a new machine.

I consider the M6 over the mxts because it is the same tracking system with less bells and whistles.

I am looking for a machine that i can use soley and not have to purchase 2-3 detectors.

I have not read one bad thing about the M6 or the Minelab Safari.

So far I am between the At pro. M6. or Safari. i know the at is water proof but i need something that i can rely on day in and day out without having to send it to be repaired.

Get an E-Trac. You will end up there eventually.

The M6 is a more simple version of the MXT. If you have used the MXT and know it, you know that whites are hard to beat.
I love whites and wouldn't trade them for any other brand. If you liked the MXT as much as I like mine than you should have no doubts

You just described a Garrett AT Pro. I would highly look into one if I were you. Great machine!

Holler if you have questions or looking for a great deal! Bart

Several detecting shops let you try before you buy. If you can find one close to you, that would be your best bet. If not, maybe try to find some members in your area who own the machines you're interested in and see if they'll let you try 'em out.

When i went to look at the at pro and another couple of detectors they tried the hard sell on the safari...which always puts me off something but it felt so ...well... cheap.

I wasnt totally sold on the at pro until watching more and more videos of finds and owners recommendations....i looked at the mxt and pro and they looked good but they weigh a lot too comparred to the at pro, and with a bad right arm i couldnt take swinging an extra 1lb of weight for hours on end..some people talk about the at pros weight with the large coil and that is the 2.9lb...so the mxt in the high 3's was weigh(sorry had to) too much.

If the mxt had a belt mount then maybe but then you have yet something else after the headphones to get tangled in when it comes time to put it down to dig.

If it hadnt had the std mode ive have gone with the T2, if not the waterproof maybe id have gone with the F75SE, but for allround value for money i couldnt find anything even close to it with the same learning curve, abilities, weight, waterproof and customer support

I have owned a couple of Whites machines. Actually still own one. I traded my M6 for the AT Pro with another member from this forum. As far as I'm concerned, the only similarity between the two is that they are both in the same price range. I think the AT is a much better machine. Although the person I traded with said he liked the M6. As far as "knowing" the Whites, don't worry about that, the AT is very easy to learn, if you can turn it on, you can detect with it. (the manual shows you how to turn it on ). As far as wanting to upgrade from the AT to an E Trac or an MXT or whatever, I don't have any interest in upgrading, and I've been known to upgrade just about everything in my life, except for my wife and my AT. You won't be disapointed with the AT.

The At Pro is the bomb. The problems were on the first models.

Seems to me that this here ^^^^^^ Coin master sure looks like its got a plastic control box and arm brace. Hmmm. Not much different than the ATP. Love my ATP. Never going back to anything less. Might upgrade sometime in the future if they get a newer version with more power but the AT-Pro is fantastic and light, I've never had a problem swinging the large DD coil.
