Default button with great seal....

....is what it is. Does anyone know how old it might be. Found it in my front yard, like it a lot better than all the zinc pennies that are also there. Its all metal looks like brass on the back, maybe copper on the front, rang up as a penny. Should have put a coin in the photo, but its a hair smaller than a quarter. On the back it is stamped "R Liebmann mfg Co Newark New Jersey. So I know its not older than New Jersey, but thats about it ! Its the first really cool button I have found. Anybody know anything more?

from a forum that had the same button, I found this answer:

the book "Record Of American Uniform And Historical Buttons Bicentennial Edition" by Alphaeus H. Albert.


The design was introduced in 1902 for General Service Army buttons.

WWI Army great seal button circa 1914-1918 based on the maker on the backmark.

Wow, thanks guys! Appreciate the help, I had seen some info, but was having a hard time narrowing down the timeframe. Thanks for your time and info. Its a really neat button!

US Army button. They are still in use today.
