Three finds, how to clean?

I'm not apposed to electrolosis but I have two little boys at home that are sure to nose around no matter how close I watch them.

The below items are my first finds and I want to keep them for years to come.

the axe head if its old is most likely iron so a wire brush, plate im not sure, sand blast and paint? tooth brush and baking powder?

Aggreed. You don't have to go easy on the ax head, you can put a wire wheel to it with a drill. It should clean up pretty easily. I've done that with hammer heads. Out of curiosity, what year is the license plate? Curt

The date should be right below the IA on the right hand side. That part of it is really corroded. I found some similar to it from 1929 but none like this one. I'll keep digging for info on it.

Did some research on the lic plate and it's from 1916 based on the series of numbers and the design. Very cool!

As far as the axe, I ended up taking the dremel to it with a sanding disc. Once I got the first thick coat of rust off it I found that the head still had a decent edge on both blades.

I'll get some new pics up soon. So far no electrolosis has been used. A little vinegar soaking and scrubbing with a tooth brush on the lic plate and of course the dremel on the axe head.
