Default Electrolysis - making good connection

Any suggestions on getting a good connection on crusty relics when doing electrolysis? I've seen videos where people drill a screw into the item.

Not sure I want to go that route.

any less intrusive suggestions?

Oh thread surfing I see to file part of it down to expose some of the object.

Oh well I guess That's the answer.

depending on what your item is, if you dont want to do any damage, even a poor connection will do the trick. It will just take more time, but may be worth it in the end.

When I used electrolysis, which I have done quite a bit, you can wrap the piece in a wire like cage around the piece to suspend it. It will still work with it slightly touching.

The idea with electrolysis is not to damage the object so try not to disturb it or damage it.

When it has been in the solution for a while you can clean it with 0000 steel wool and re-wrap the piece again and have better conductivity the second time.

It will also help/speed up the process using hot water as opposed to luke warm water but either way it will work.

PS The steel wool should not be used on coins as it can damage them.

Just my 2 cents!

Thanks for the tips. The wire wrapping is an interesting idea. I will
give that a try.
