Default Stuff from Da Nang -Vietnam

Well, my brother asked me if i could post this here.
He bought this from some dude who said it was found in Da Nang, Vietnam and i honestly have NO idea why he bought it but whatever makes him happy eh.
I think he wants to know what the blank pentagon and the air police badge (#93799) is.

That hexagonal medal is commendation medal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commendation_Medal Looks like it's the Navy & Marine version.

The blue rifle with the wreath around it is known as a CIB (Combat Infantryman Badge). Only awarded to Army Infantry and Special Forces soldiers... Got mine in 2003 in Afghanistan... What every Infantryman desires to have.

There are several what we call BOLO badges in the Army...

It is worn as a rating. To this day, the Army still uses these clasps. They are worn on the Army Marksman, Sharpshooter or Expert Badges.

I have been in the Army over 25 years and have never seen anyone wear anything other than Grenade, Rifle, Pistol or Machine gun. They are still listed in AR 670-1 (Wear and appearance of the Army uniform) but many badges in there are no longer awarded (like the nuclear reactor badge- still authorized, but they have not had this MOS since the early 70's)

They are worn by enlisted soldiers (however officers are authorized to wear them, but never do)

For more information see AR 670-1 page 283. Here is a link...

[/QUOTE]

Also in there are Senior Parachutists wings (Army)

The second picture is a navy pin on rank. Chief Petty Officer 3d class (an E-4)

The last picture looks like an Air Force Service cap emblem (enlisted)

The second to last pic is a US Marine corps qualification badge..

The round "US" badge is an Army Brass Lapel Badge worn by enlisted troops...

Any other questions, let me know....

Cheers!

Looks like wiki sais that air force badge is individually labeled to the person it belongs to, might be interesting to try and look up whos it was. "Each badge is imprinted with a unique number that the Security Forces Member will wear their entire SF career" -wiki

not "chief" petty officer, just 3rd class petty officer (e-4), you are not a chief until e-7 and that is the fouled anchor with usn across it. I know some chiefs on here might chime in.

the eagle with single cheveron is a rank (rate) identifier. perhaps USAF, but certainly USN. the same style is still used today and is worn either on a shirt collar or on garrison cap. the one in your picture identifies the rank E-4 (pay grade). two cheverons would indicate E-5, and three cheverons E-6

Wow, so much info!
Thanks!

The commendation medal is blank, is it never been given to someone?
Is it possible to find out what happened to the person who the air force badge belonged to?

cool but really hard to put a place or time on any of that stuff since they still wear them devices today or at least most of them. Could be from any conflict dating back to Vietnam. IF so from there then you just wonder who wore the stuff and what happened to the solider but it really has a sentiemental value cause most you can still purchase or people still wear. Neat stuff tho....i like it!!

The Air Police badge is from that period. The badge hasn't changed except it now says "Security Police" on it. The badge number is individual to a person but not sure how to track it as if you lost it they just issued you a new one.
Would be neat to find out though. I was one for 20 years.

The Air Force Police badge has actually changed again since then and now says "Security Forces" which is the USAF Law Enforcement and Security career field. The numbers "used" to mean something, now they just basically use them to track whether they were issued or not. I have about 5 of them at home "collected" through nearly 10 years in the AF, oh and a miniature mess dress version. That's a really cool badge and I would be curious to see if the numbers from that era were linked to someone rather than a inventory list.

I retired from the Air Force in 1975, at that time you were issued a Security Police Badge at each base you were assigned to. When you transfered or got out of the Air Force you turned it in. That same badge could now be issued to someone else. It must been some time after 1975 that they issued it for your entire career. Side note: The first badges were silver and light blue.
