it is cheap and you will find things with it, if you don't know if you are going to enjoy going out it is better than spending 200 and hating it. How well it works I wouldn't know

My son has that machine. It's hard to figure out unless you dig every time the MD beeps, and sometimes it gives false alerts. Good luck with your decision!

I'm currently using the Harbor Freight detector. It finds metal that's for sure. If your looking to find coins with it I've found that the best settings is to set the switch to disc. Set your sensitivity knob 3/4 full or in the 3 o'clock position. Then set your disc. Knob to a little over half full or in the 1 to 2 o'clock range.

I bought my detector in May and have found close to $6 in clad. A sliver bracelet and a few buttons. I did find my first wheat penny the other day with it. So all in all it does the job. But I'm itching to upgrade to a better detector soon. One that will give me a different tone for the different metals and or has a display that gives some kind of indication of what I might be digging.

If you do end up buying one and need some help or tips on it feel free to PM me and I'll share what I've learned about using it.

I still consider myself "NEW". Now I'm learning the beach and it is VERY different in that you just have to learn WHERE to search and the limits of your machine. I personally own the ACE250 and it does pretty good in dry sand. The wet sand (i.e. salty) it seems to vary, at least for me thus far. That is what I do with the VDI (Visual Display Indicator), I hunt with the tones and then I use the VDI to get a better idea of WHAT it is that I'm going to be digging. I DIG EVERYTHING (well, just about 99.9%) and if the VDI is indicating that it is foil, iron, pulltab, dime, penny, etc then it is usually 99.9% that it IS what it says it is. Depth, is usually pretty darn accurate as well... if the VDI says 2", then the object in question is surface to 2" down, if it says 6", then the object is surface to 6" down. Pinpointing gives a more accurate reading when figuring object depth. You just have to remember that it is another form of a "tool" at your disposal as far as the VDI telemetry. I'm NOT telling you to go and BUY the ACE250 as there are others on the market that I hear VERY good things about, for example, the Fisher F2. The F2 is in the same price bracket and is a VDI machine as well. If you want tone only, then the Tesoro Compadre is VERY WELL loved by MANY of the forum members here, but it has NO VDI. Anyways, just to give you SOME insight on the ACE250.

to the OP, get what works for you, but if you do decide to get a better machine in July then, me personally, I would just wait because it is just around the corner. You could use that $45+ money to get other MD'r gear. Just my humble opinion of course.

for both of you, here is a poll (don't know if you have seen it yet) that alot of the forum members started out with and recommend as a first MD'r. You will find that MOST people, not necessarily brand loyal, but LOVE their first machines. HH \_ people

go for it, if you like the hobby you will be upgrading within 6 months.

I personally haven't used the machine.

in most cases you get what you pay for.

Hey, it looks like a pretty decent detector. But you never know. I would go for it, and try it out.
Good luck!
