Ok i searched and couldn't find it on another thread so i'm going to post it here since the whole thread is awesome F2 knowledge

I'm going to the beach again this weekend. I didn't take it last weekend and kicked myself in the butt the whole time.

How will the f2 work on the saltwater beach? dry sand/wetsand? I'm pretty positive I will NOT be going near the water with it.
And i'm assuming my brother from another mother Compadre will be far to sensitive to do anything on the beach...am I correct?

In dry sand it should work good...in wet you will probably need to turn it down, some, and it will probably still false but listen for the solid tones.

As far as the Compadre, it might work pretty good at the beach, too, I don't think it would be too sensitive, but others that have tried that will hopefully chime in on that.

I went back to the high school islands today. I got another $4.63 in change, a golf ball, 6 pencils a cheap kids necklace (says HOPE) and a half of a bag of trash(surface and dug). Do you guys and gals find many nickles with the F2? I think I may of only dug 4 since I bought the F2. Either people don't drop them or my machine is allergic to nickles.

I find nickels but they all don't come in at 32-33 like they should.
Dig everything from 27-35 and you might find more.

Not as many nickels as dimes and pennys....

Those darn pull tabs keep me digging the 29-46 hits, but
when the numbers are real solid 29-33 in the ground, its always a 5c

Have been finding some silver jewelry, small ring, necklace pendant and
ear ring parts... not a lot...but keeps me look'n 'n hope'n

Default Help on Notching

Hi Digger,

I used the F2 on saturday and I still have trouble trying to get this configuration for hunting

I want nickel, zinc, dime, quarter
I want to notch out iron, foil, and tab.

I had the forum directions you sent me once before and I still cant get this configuration.

Can you do this config?

ps i found a ring with the number 08 on it and it came up in the zinc range, i think its a steel ring has no gold marks on it

Ill help you.
I do it the long way.

Turn F2 on
Press...
Notch, +,+,+,notch (this gets rid of "tab")
Notch, +,notch (this gets rid of of "foil")
Notch, notch (this gets rid of "Iron")

You're now pretty much in coin mode.

Have fun

I use this config when Im getting tired, or leaving the area and its a long walk back to my car, or when Im in a trashy area where Im not concerned about anything but coins.

Then I dig only these numbers.

Nickel 32-34
Zinc 48-55
^Peny 59-72
Dimes 71-73(S)74
QTRs 77-83

While finding my first Silver Chain today, made a discovery about the F2 and battery life/indicator

Was stretching my hunt because I was having my best day, even though the battery indicator had been at 2 (1/2 scale) for quite awhile.

Hit on what I thought was a pulltab or curb rebar or irigation pipe.
Decided to dig 'cuz not much trash to go with lots of clad, so karma payback to clean site up a bit.

After revive'n a 21" 37gram SS chain, found only one bar of battery left. 1/4 scale.
As an experiment, kept hunt'n a bit longer, to see if preformance dropped off with only 1 bar indicated.
15 minutes = 2 more quarters 2" & 4", 2 dimes over 4", and 3 zincolns, one over 5" and......
......finally a pulltab for the karma keepers
Preformance seemed to hold up with no decernable dropoff to this newbies knowledge.

When I got home, measured voltage. Here are the results for my F2:
Two bars drops to one @ 7.53 vdc in both batteries. (no left/right switch, I'm finding it does not help with my f2)
Three bars drops to two @ 8.05 vdc, both batts.
Haven't measured when four bars drops to three
Battery voltage may have recovered a bit during the drive home, as batteries tend to do, but not much.

Fer pics and more story see me thread:

Tnx again Digger...you may find this chain looks familiar.

Thanks for the battery info input.
What did the clasp on that big chain come in as, if I may ask?

It was hitting 42-40-52-37-42...... pulltab like numbers. Clasp end and small loop was about 1" deeper than the rest of the chain.
When also sizing the target, 6" off a curb in the corner of a parking island, (tks for hunting tip) I was getting beeps like it was a piece of rebar or irrigation pipe that I knew was in the area. ( hate those buried sprinkler heads that read 82-83 )

Went for strongest no motion pinpoint area and decided to obey the karma and clean out the tab since I had had so few pieces of trash. Maybe 4-1, clad to trash hits.

Found it mostly strung out in a straight line 2" or so deep.
Thank goodness I use mostly a probe and pry-bar type recoveries for less than 4" targets. Plug digger would have done a real number on the chain.

Looking through my coins today, discovered that I also found a 1918 d wheat penny, for my oldest coin...so far.

:Boat:

Ahh, took a trip to the islands and it paid off big time!
An exact match to my bracelet...just way bigger!
As I have said several times, chains are weird.
Depth, size and position in the ground can affect all readings.
Sometimes, digging those iffy, bouncy numbers gets you the good stuff.

Ain't this the truth...???
Everytime I found my "good stuff"...I would have normally passed it...but something inside made me think.."Hmmm...why THOSE numbers" And I dig it.
Its paid off.

42-40-52-37-42....
Laid out in a line, 2" deep? I think I would have passed. Hmmm..now you got me thinking....

I am very curious by nature, and I dig most signals at my regular sites if not at first, eventually.
I just gotta know.

Also...still no X-Ray vision, although I keep trying.

Iffy and strange signals...also weird shapes can sometimes be something real good.
http://metaldetectingforum.com/showthread.php?t=98264

Dig it all is the only way to be sure.

I start off that way when I arrive...then I get tired. I'll stop digging the pennys too......lol. It leaves me something to back and get later...lol

I know what you mean, but no matter how tired I am I am forced to dig all penny signals.
Why?
High tone copper can also be silver.

Zinc signals are my favorite, however, and here are 5 reasons why...
