Thumbs up I have had great success

with my HF PP. I will someday get a Garrett PP but there's no rush for me since I have the HF unit. At 17 bucks I can replace it a few times if I have to. This one has lasted a year and 4 months and I just replaced the original battery!

Haven't touched the HF pinpointer since I got my Garrett Pro-Pointer, to me there really is no comparison. Also pm some of the sponsors.... I paid a fair bit less than $127 for mine with free shipping.

It's expensive, but IMHO the ProPointer is worth the money. I tried the Harbor Freight pointer at first, and its range and durability don't even compare to the Garrett.

I get little enough chances to go out hunting, and the PP has probably cut the time I spend locating a find in half. More time = more finds = more fun.

As a former HF PP user there is no comparison at all to the Garrett ProPointer. None. It is worth every penny.

Plenty have had these same thoughts.
Considering that this thing can take 2/3 off your recovery time and give you tons of useful info before you dig, most hunters change their mind about the cost the first time they use it.

I have 2 because I almost lost mine twice, and even though I could, it would be just too frustrating for me to hunt without it.

Many have described this as "The other half of my detector".

I use a HF pointer. It does work but I have to think that the real ones are a lot better. All I ever hear anyone talk about the is the Garret but there are at least 7 others out there. Whites, Detector pro, BH, and Fisher have them. Are any of these as good as the Garret?

Essentially, no. There are one or two others on the market that are in the same league as the Garrett ProPointer (can't think of which brand), but they are equally expensive. Most of the other brands of pinpointers are almost directly comparable to the HF model, performance-wise at least.

Th HF is good for what it does. No, it doesn't compare to a garrett. The garrett is expensive but worth it. The HF is cheap but functional. If you want to spend money, go ahead, you won't be sorry. If you want to save but still have a PP that functions well, stick with the HF.

I have the GPP and the HF pinpointer and HIGHLY recommend the GPP. The proximity feature that it has is just AMAZING when it comes into "play". I bought the GPP first and the HF as a back-up. There was one time where I ACTUALLY left the GPP at my house and had the HF pinpointer in my trunk with my other gear (i.e. like said, "a back-up unit...") and YES, it come in handy BUT BY FAR the GPP I CAN GUARANTEE YOU IS FAR, FAR BETTER!!! How you say... the proximity feature helped out alot when it came down to pinpointing EXTREMELY small metal objects that just "masked" themselves with the dirt. EVEN IN MY HANDS using the HF pinpointer was cumbersome to use, well, at least for me. I'm NOT telling you TO BUY THE GPP over others as I don't have knowledge with the others other than what I have read myself about them. I hear the Pistol Probe is good, but too big and cumbersome. Anyways, that is what I've read more than once about the Pistol Probe and THAT is "MY" personal experiences with the GPP and HF pinpointer. HH \_ with whatever you decide to get.

My HF does the job but I had to take it apart and rewire the battery leads. One of the wires came loose from the circuit board. I have had it for a month...

Better than nothing but you get what you pay for I guess.

The HF is basic, but a very functional tool, at around $16. it helps you pinpoint you find in the hole, rather than feel around for it. You can't shove it in the ground (don't abuse my Propointer that way either), dig with it, or pry up rocks or tree roots. You can manually set the sensitivity, if you need more or less, with a little twist of the dial. You can detune the ProPointer, by turning off, and then back on, while in the hole, near your target. I would only consider opening my Propointer, if Garrett wanted to start charging for repairs, where shipping it to them, is about the same as buying a new HF. Didn't even wait for the HF to fail, before opening it up, change out the pushbutton, with a rocker. Changed the beeper for a vibrating motor. $16 isn't that big a deal, if I made a mistake and destroyed it, got most of the parts, or something close anyway. If I lost it, would spend much time searching and worrying over it. It's cheap, but it does what it was made for pretty good. Have both, and really don't see a phenomenal increase in recovery, but haven't gotten lazy or sloppy pinpointing with my detector, before digging. Still flip the plug, and see targets without needing to pinpoint further. I'm not competing or in a race for time or a payoff. I'm just out having a little fun, hunt as long as want/can, the ground will still be there next time I get out.

If price is a worry, save the fancy for when you can afford it, you aren't missing out on $100 experience, and you won't have that sick feeling, if you lost or misplaced it...

Default Pinpointers

Have you gone to youtube and watched the comparison videos for pinpointers? I too used a HF at first, and mine was made on a good day!Let me tell you the most important thing my GPP does for me, since they scan down 2 to 3 inches deep from the surface Shallow targets can be traced out with it, That can save a lot of useless digging. Scarf up just one valuable target because a cheap PP didn't detect it soon enough and you'll be kicking your butt back to your PC to buy a GPP... GL & HH Pat

I just bought a garret pro pointer , and a harbor freight pinpointer. I have been using an original whites bullseye for the last ten years.. If money is tight..get a whites bullseye ..It isn't a garret , but it should last years.. I did lose my pinpointer one year , but found it along a riverbank over a year later..had to soldier new battery leads on ..and it still works to this day..Worst thing about the original bullseye is the little black button you gotta push.. it gets dirty and you gotta press it HARD.. kills your finger after a few hours.. But I am lost without a pinpointer..I bought a cheapie while it was lost , what a waste..It quit after a few times out..sent it back for a return and the replacement lasted a few weeks also.. Found my whites after that..the harbor frieght pointer is priced right..If it lasts a year..get another one..sixteen bucks including the battery.. mid range ..the bullseye is good...and the cadillac is the garret... Takes a bit to get good with the garret as it is so sensitive ..but once you use one , you'll never go back to the cheaper ones..

I have the HF pinpointer and it has made finding the target easy, so if the Pro Pointer is so much better, I can't wait to get one when I get the extra money.
