Hi everyone,
I don't know a whole lot about coins, so please pardon my ignorance. Obviously, scratches bring down a coin's value, but I'm wondering how bad the scratches have to be to totally wreck the value. I found a 1902 Barber dime, and the poor thing had a run-in with something. No, it wasn't my digger. So, is it only worth melt value? The reverse has the same amount of wear (very little, I'd say), but no scratches.Thoughts? Thanks folks! __________________ |

You're too kind! This is my first Barber...and up until now, I had only found 2 silver Rosies. It's also my oldest coin find. I know it's really special to me, but I didn't know what a coin collector would think.

That's in great shape for it's age, and definitely a keeper. Nice find!

Yes, it does look beautiful...i couldnt believe it when i saw it. My first thought was that it was a canadian dime, actually. I wasnt anywhere that i would have expected to find silver, let alone old silver! I have no intention of selling it, but it's always nice to know what you have, just in case. __________________ |

Yours is in great shape! Congrat's!
I found my first Barber, a dime too, last Saturday. It wasn't deep and it's sooo worn down that there is no ridge around the rim. You can see the outline of the face and "one dime' on the back. I can only see the top third of the date. The last digit is a 7 so it can only be either an 1897 or a 1907. Be thankful that you can see your dime's date!

But I still wonder how much damage those scratches do to its value. Anyone have a guess? The scratches look worse in person than in the picture. One big one on the neck and several smaller ones above it, behind the ear. __________________ |

Nice coin. As far as value, if I found that, it would be priceless......Curt

Is there a mintmark on the reverse?
The coin would grade a VF20-scrathes. For me personally that's gonna cut the grade in roughly half. My guess on values would be: 1902 P - $4 1902 O - $15 1902 S - $35ish.... __________________ Omega 8000 / Lesche / ProPointer

Thanks so much for the guess. No, there's no mint mark. I'll post the pic in the morning. It's on my work pc.

In pretty good shape honestly. Nice coin overall. My first Barber was a half.

Not sure how I missed this Mike! That's an awesome looking Barber dime! I see the damage but it only adds character to an otherwise very detailed Barber! Congrats!!!!

Your coin is mint compared to my first V nickle. I think you have at least some collector value in it.

Good to know...Thanks. I'm cherishing it b/c it's the only coin I've found that isn't modern clad (besides a dozen wheats or so).

I agree, this looks to be a very nice coin. Especially when you consider the age. I have no idea the monetary value, but I can tell that your sentimental value is sky high! (As it should be!)
Congrats on the Barber!
