Cool millitary ID tag, what era?

I found this ID tag under a tree right next to a 1937 penny. Does anyone know what era? From what I could read WWll,, but the id# is not eight or nine digits like they're supposed to be for that era. Anyone help identifying it more accurately would be appreciated.
It's also odd that it has his address on it. The bottom three letters are: MWP. Does anyone know what that means?
Real big...3" x1 1/4" !!

It's odd. Seems rather elongated... and isn't formatted like you'd expect an issued ID tag to be.

Yes it's longer than most I've seen. I'll post another pick for measurement. Its really close to 3" x1 1/4" wide! Real big it seems!

I cannot help you with what type of tag that you found, but there is an Ernest T Eschinger Jr. that died in 2006 buried in DC as well as his father who lived in DC.

The first one mentioned is also listed in a technical document put out by the US Army, the Belvoir Research, Development and Engineering Center. The report date in 1992 and the page he is mentioned on is VI.

This information doesn't answer your question, but might lead someone to the right conclusion/answer.

Wow, thank so much! Is there any way to see who died first? I feel kinda bad now. I found it right at the base of a tree in between the barn and house. I wonder if one of them putt it there intentionally!
Sad.

It looks like he tested one of the portable bridge systems or something. I have to read more.. Very very cool.
Its so crazy that we can dig things up and investigate them and learn about things they did, even well after they're gone.
I hope someone's talking about me well after I'm gone.
I think I'll putt it back where it obviously belongs....

I have been trying to figure out the M W P on the bottom of this tag. It looks like there was a lot of different types of research done where he worked, including Mobility Equipment Research. I don't see any military markings on his headstone or a military obit for his death. It makes me wonder if he was a civilian contract worker and that was a civilian style tag and identification number or something with the M W P being clearance or projects that he was working on?

Wow!! Thats simply amazing that I'm looking at both thier headstones!!! UNREAL!!!
How does the guy get pics of all those?
This is too crazy to me.
I wonder if I can find any relatives and see what they think I should do with it.
I never thought I'd be seeing all this stuff just from a simple dog tag.

don't military dog tags have the persons religion? ie RC would be roman catholic. could the MWP be an abbreviation for a religion?

On a dogtag I think Roman Catholic is just a "C", P I think is Protestant.

They do yes... but the formatting for this tag is just not military. Here's a good link you guys can check out that illustrates the point.

http://www.mooremilitaria.com/dog_tags.htm

THIS LINK also shows the modern format currently used.

Newer tags, like mine from 2001 are formatted as follows on an un-notched tag:

Last Name
First Name, Middle Initial
SSN
Blood Type (O+ would be O POS, - would be O NEG)
Religious Preference (or NO-REL-PREF for no preference)

This is correct. It is NOT a military issued dog tag. Many " Army-Navy " stores, & places online, have the machine & the blank tags to make whatever you want. I am going to say that the numbers are possible driver's license numbers & the " M = Male,,, W= White,,, & " P " = Protestant.

Maybe it's an abbreviation for "Male White Protestant"?

M probably stands for married not male since by the name male is obvious.
