Default Fisher Coil ??

The fisher f2 coils. Which coil is best? 10 in or 11in DD coil? And Why? Pros and Cons of each? Thanks in advance-Mac

I can't speak for the F2 but its big brother the F4 I had 3 coils for it & I used the 11"DD coil on it about 99% of the time, I just loved that coil. It covered alot of ground, easy to pinpoint with and was deeper.

Another advantage to a DD coil is that it will do better than a comparable size concentric in mineralized soil conditions.

I just recently purchased the f4, and while im amazed at the depth , the pinpointing is alittle difficult for me but i'm still practicing with it.....anyone have any tip's/tricks for pinpointing..

the dd coil is great but it does mark steel beer caps as quarters or dimes wich can be a pain in the rear at some trashy parks. but you can use the back and ive also heard the very front of the coil over the target and the id will drop if its a steel cap. mine seams to pin point great the sweet spot seams to be the center of the coil where the spot is from the coil being molded. i use left right to find the target then turn 90 degres and do it again x makes the spot! i had a thread that the heading was f4 coils and digger had a post with a article about "rimming".

I have the DD on my F2 and love it, some people say its a waste to buy a upgrade for a entry level detector, but even with my x-terra I find myself sometimes just grabbing my fisher to shoot down to the park to coinshoot, so IMO I am glad I have it, it helps in the mineralized soil here too and of course gives me like 1-3 inches over the concentric stock coil

Got my DD in the mail today. I upgraded from the 8". I can't speak for the 10", but compared to the 8"...I LOVE IT. The target separation is awesome. I do have to agree with coin chaser on the bottle caps, but with the 8", I didn't even find them. I am digging more now with the DD, but I think that is just because the separation is so obvious, especially in my old 1860 iron trashy yard.

The only coil I've used with the f2 is the 11 inch dd. I've learned to disc out when in trashy areas and work them from the best signal and down on the vid. Not sure if you get what I'm saying so I'll try and describe how I use my f2. When I get in a trashy area I'll disc out everything to the top. Then after digging those I'll bring each one back in one at a time. Most of the time if an area is too trashy I won't hunt it.

I can not comment on the 10" but others that post on the boards seem to like it and do quite well. I have only used the 11" DD on my F2. Bottle caps do ring up good but often I can sort them out. I make my X and then make a few quick swings. It seems that with a few fast swings I can work out a grunt. This is not 100% but it does help.I have also noticed in my soil that when I get a 68 and only the top bar on the depth meter is black it has always been a can. Pinpointing a coin has always been spot on with a coin I almost never use the pinpoint button. The only time I have had trouble (which is rare) has been a smashed can or oddly bent target. If one enjoys the F2 I think the coil is valuable upgrade versus purchasing a new machine.

Have used both and prefer the 10". Quite a savings over the cost of the 11"DD and it will hit coins that the 8" coil might miss. Also, it was easier to PP for me. Just a personal choice but I am very happy with the results using the 10" coil.
