I hope I have posted this in the right place. If not, Im very sorry. I hunted friday and sat. and I have had severe pain in my elbow area. Im right handed and the right one is pretty bad. The left one hurts too but not as bad. Its been hurting pretty bad since sun morning. It had been awhile since going but I never remember having elbow pain before from md'ing. Keep in mind I md'ed for about 16 hrs all together. Has anyone else had this to happen to them? Sorry for such a stupid question but I need to know. Thanks-Mac

Well yes and no... I had a accident at work and tore my tendon from my left Elbow. I am dominant left handed. I had one surgery and have to have another soon. It sucks!!! Sorry to hear about it and go get it check out by a ortho doc.

Go to a pharmacy and get the strap to wear for tendenitis They work! Give your arm some rest and if you do detect then work slower alternating arms. You can search them on the net and it will tell you how they work. I had the same problem and went to the doc, he asked me to do that first and it worked. The one I bought is made by Ace. Plus it beats a trip to the doc first.

You should be able to just go into your local Walgreens or pharmacy and just ask for a "tennis elbow" Strap or the like. I, too, am right handed but I have switched to using my left hand for swinging. I use my right hand for the Pro Pointer and screwdriver/digger. Seems to be natural once I switched. I also try to consciously pay attention to my swinging hand and keep it as relaxed as possible. I found myself death gripping my AT-Pro even with the small coil on so weight was not causing it, just my mind making me grip it so dang hard. Good luck man, Stretch out that wrist and shoulder good but gently to help relax the muscles in the forearm. ALEEVE too. LOL

I had great results from one of those elbow straps that have a built in air cushion pad. It puts exact pressure on the spot of your elbow causing the pain and supports it. aka tennis elbow. Wore it for a few weeks and cured it. They sell at most stores and very inexpensive.

I've had the same thing and in my shoulder as well, from swinging a WOT on a long straight shaft for three 10 hour days in a row. The Doc had me do stenghtening exercises and it eventually got better.
I found somthing called the Hip stick (google it) and it has mad a BIG differance. You have to have a harness to use it. I bought a Blackhawk load bearing suspender/harness (Amazon) for mine and it works great. I can go all day using the Hip stick and not have a problem with the pain now. It's a little pricey but worth every penny IMO. HH __________________ |

Walgreens, Walmart and plenty more places. One thing I did was use icy hot and then place the strap over. The strap should be just forward of the elbow and increases blood cells to help repair the tendon. I think that's how it works.

Have a buddy give you charlie horse as hard as they can in your leg. I bet the pain in the arm goes away instantly.
Jus having a little fun. I usually take breaks when swinging so I don't get sore. Hope the arm heals.

i've never had any real problems last year from detecting. sure, a bit stiff and sore after a long hunt, but lately my elbow bothers me quite a bit, especially if i'm in a fairly clean area and not getting many "digging breaks" from the swinging action. but my elbow problem was more of a torn muscle or ligament from an injury i had over the winter and the swinging does tend to aggravate it.
Ibuprofen helps quite a bit as does switching hands every so often to give my right arm a break. and stopping for a little rest every so often and just taking a little break and letting things relax will help out too. ![]() for an example of how bad my arm was bothering me, 4 or 5 months ago i had serious doubts as to whether or not i'd ever be swinging the detector again! i'm not much of a person for going to doctors, but things seem to be healing and i no longer wake in the middle of the night from the pain. and even with the detecting causing a bit of discomfort after a long day, the actual workout from swinging is probably helping my arm to heal up.... just as long as i don't overdo it. i'd say to try one of those arm band thingys and give your arm a few days to rest up and when you do feel up to getting back swinging, take it easy! even just relaxing your grip on your detector can make a big difference when it comes to muscle fatigue. ![]() i hope things work out alright for you and by all means, keep us posted and let us know how you're doing. The straps work great. I'm wearing one right know. After wearing it for a while you'll get movement back fully. I've worn out three straps, with both arms..

When I get pain from detecting I just keep going and eventually my body seems to heal. Don't know if this works for a lot of us or not but it works for me. I figure it is the body breaking down and getting healthy again. Some may end up in worse shape , I don't know for sure. I had a spot in my lower back if I bumped a counter top with my hip it would shoot pain through the spot. From detecting a lot I don't have the pain as bad anymore. I am 62 almost 63. Good luck to all with pain .
M6 Mike Just to make it clear it is a day or two later that I am detecting again and the pain isn't as bad after a day of detecting anymore. Sometimes a week or two later of detecting before it clears up, may still be there but not nearly as bad . I think all the stretching and bending starts the pain and it also is the cure for pain as we get into better condition. Remember what Mom use to say " No Pain No Gain" lol __________________ |
