Ok - I know the first two items aren't metal, but can anyone ID them?
The first stone looks like some type of hammer? It is blunt on one side and pointy on the other, seems to have grooved where it could have been attached to somehting. The front is smooth (from hammering?) the rest is rough. Any thoughts? The smaller stone looks like some kind of handle?? It has grooves that in no way look natural. I can't imagine what it could be though? Thoughts? Last one is a small metallic item that appears to be a very small shotgun shell? It is smooth on the top, no sign of a primer, but looking inside to the cap you can see a small circle. The out side seems like a layer of copper/lead, I'm not sure, but something metallic with small grooves. The open end was actually covered, but the outer material is brittle and broke off when I cleaned it off. You can see it is much smaller than a usual shell. Maybe 410? I found it 6 or 7 inches down. Thanks for helping! |

Nice finds! The stone tool things are cool! Is there any way of getting some more pics of the bottom item? I am not sure that it is a shotshell. I need to see both the top and bottom ends of it.
Thanks and welcome to the forum! Doug __________________ |

the top photo looks to me as tho it could have been destined to become a "bird stone" a counter weight used for an atal atal. just my thoughts. then i looked at the other pic of it being in your hand. way too big to be a bird stone. cool tho

i don't think that's a shot shell. it could be a lipstick tube or a cap from one.

Looks like it might be part of an older buss type fuse to me.

Your stone tools are bizarre compared to others I have seen. What state were they found. That will help. The one almost looks like a peice of 3/4 groove axe, broken in half. The twist on the one is very interesting. Any more pics? I have many books on stone tools.

The one stone tool with grooves in center could be an 'axe' or axe like weapon, but when you say it is smooth on the front, I am not sure what is the front. If it is smooth on one end, then I am thinking a different type of pestle.
Have no idea on the other unless it was a crude wine corkscrew . A general location would be helpful.

These were found in Connecticut. The big stone really seems to be shaped and feels like a hammer (tool or weapon) By front I mean the blunt part that a hammer would hit a nail.
Not much flint type rock in New England. I think that is the usual appearance that people think of. The smaller one is really odd, I'll take some different pics. |
