Default spent the 15$

I was on the Harbor Freight site buying an electric winch for the truck and saw the Cen Tec handheld pointer.

I figured for 15$ it would get me a pp and a base to learn from.

this way if I ever do get a Garret one I will have something to compare it to.

You won't be disappointed that you spent the $15 bucks. I think its better and more consistent than the Fisher pp I have that came with my F2

Ya, this will be fun. I think it would be better to get the basics down with a cheaper product and also learn technique first. Hopefully this will also help with the size and depth of my holes, another skill to master.

You should be able to get a pretty good idea about the target location pinpointing with your detector, the pinpointer helps when you don't see it in the hole or plug you dig. I used the Harbor freight most of the past year, with only a few minor complaints, which I corrected. It is a little awkward in deep holes (8 inches and beyond). Use the sensitivity knob, if it's not helping, or behaving. Found that trying to get the maximum range, wasn't always best. Just like I'm finding on my DeLeon, lowering the sensitivity helps. I bought the ProPointer, couple months ago, impulse buy, while ordering a couple of coils. It isn't quite the little miracle, we constantly read here, compared to $15 HF. Save the ProPointer purchase for when you are out detecting pretty much everyday, or spend most of your weekends out swing. I'll be going back to the HF freight when it's lost or fails.

I love mine. And knowing that if something goes wrong with it, I can always drive the 2 miles the Harbor Freight and pick up a new one!

Works great but wont take a pounding like the fisher.I like the harbor fright model better it is easier and more sensitive but it is broke from moving it around a hole.I like it because you can leave it on and hold the button in when you use it.The fisher you have to turn it on and off in between uses.

Great little pin pointer ! I use mine daily. I did buy a Garrett Pro Pointer as well. Have to replace the switch (which I think, everyone has,or will down the road). I also picked up a micro vibrating motor, from Radio Shack that I will install when I replace the switch. The HF is a little bulky, however it works very well. You can also tweak the sensitivity by adjusting the trim pot ever so slightly. Blows away the Fisher F Pointer.I still keep the Fisher for a spare, just in case.

Default HF PP seems to work ok

I finally got out the first time with the harbor freight pin pointer, seems to

work ok, does what it says it does...gets close to metal and beeps.

Now I just have to force myself to use it more and get better with it.

I found 5 clad coins today and had them dug and out of the ground faster and easier on my back and staminia using it.

Getting my HFPP was the best thing I did for my "turf 'tecting"! You'll be happy you got it but the switch is DEFINITELY the weak point in these things.Try to keep dirt and moisture out of it and press it only hard enough to make it work, don't "mash down" on it.

I used the harbor freight pinpointer the 2 years that I land hunted... before i got into beach hunting. Best thing to do, is wrap electrical tape around the whole probe part, especially the tip. The very tip piece actually pulls off after a while, and has wires connected, better to keep it secured with tape. The button went on mine after a while, it would only activate when half depressed, fully depressed would turn it back off... some guys modify it to add a switch instead of a button.

It works good though.

Go to the Harbor Freight site and search for metal detector or 97245 which is the item #.
