I was waiting couple of months when the nearest field right behind my city will be smoothen after deep winter ploughing. Having drive along last week I remarked Well, at last!
So here is result my five visits. Wiener pfennig dated 1439 is period fake with just little silver coat reminds on. Anyway no wonder - the coin counterfeiting was quite common in medieval time. As I’ve get know that activity had been realized on most of the strongholds and fortified settlements. Other old coin is Cu 1/4 kiper Ferdinand II so called White coin. Dated 1621 and mostly of copper because silver stuff had been cheated. Dog tag dated 1873 is the oldest I' found so far. I’d say quite rare find. Large button from 17. century is gold plated. It will be proudly placed on my trophy hat. Inscription on cubical lead seal I don't read unfortunately. White headless porcelain figurine is eye find of course. Memorial tablet made of brass with inscription Vlasti Zdar (Fatherland Vivat) had been intended for Czechoslovak political organization Národní souručenství (initials NS) existed 1939-1943 when Protektorat Böhmen und Mähren in my country. That was only one political organization permitted by Nazi. Interesting fact for women and Jude enter in that organization prohibited. Enjoy __________________ |

Hi!
Nice finds again. I see kreuzers are a bit more damaged than what you ussualy find. Really love the lead sunclock dial. Must have been one mystical piece of art. I wonder why somebody decide, to make it out of lead. __________________ |

Sharing for sharing the pictures Karel and the detailed explanation of each, much appreciated. This is your time of the year for finding the good stuff. Very impressive collection of material from the field.
Do you believe this material found from the field is due to settlements long gone, or encampments due to the heavily traveled trade routes in the area or maybe both? Many thanks Karel, always enjoyable. ColoKid __________________ |

Awesome finds, as usual, Karel! I often think how great it would be to be in spot with that much history spread out over the fields....

Thanks to all for kind comments.
ColoKid who knows. But I'd say most of the finds went on the field with home waste it means in time when no social/garbage service all ended on dungheap afterthat had been transported on the field like a manure. I remember when was young in 50's we had also in native house a dungheap. Interesting fact in most medieval pubs floor had been covered with straw and from time to time everything swept and put on the dungheap of course also with the coins they dropped on the floor from drunk visitors pockets. Than covered with new straw and that process repeated. So to find a field belonged at the medieval pub is my dream

Ah Karel
Good point. I kept thinking of encampments or long gone villages, but your point is well taken and it would make sense. I do know that here in Colorado, they used sawdust in the pubs in the early days and the visitors would occasionally drop their gold coins on the floor and the coins and the saw dust would get swept out to the street curb every so often. Kids were reported to run their fingers thru the curbside sawdust and would find find coins occasionally as well as broken glass I expect. Thanks for the words of wisdom, Karel, keep on digging....and showing! ColoKid __________________ |

I love seeing your finds Karel, thank you!
Forum member daddydigger found one of those old china figurines in America! He identified it as something that kids would receive as a decoration on deserts etc. |

Yes, it is called a "Frozen Charlotte." Made in Germany 1860's to 1880's and usually came with Christmas pudding. I found mine in a cornfield where a 1870's school house was. The area was settled by German immigrants.
