Default Rock Tumblers for Treasure Hunters?

Though you should never use a rock tumbler to clean collectible coins, there are times when a tumbler can help you in your metal detecting hobby.

My latest podcast tells you how.

Listen at http://thetreasurecorner.com.

Default Clad only...

Hey Dan, I totally agree with you that if you are going to use a rock tumbler for any finds, they should be restricted to clad coins only with no real value outside of their face value that could be honored as a deposit at your local bank. I also would not put any relics in my tumbler (if I had one), as I believe this takes away from aesthetic look of that freshly discovered find. About the only thing I would do with these items is a soak in soap and water with a gentle scrub from a soft bristle toothbrush. JMHO, Dan

I don't even go that far. I put some soap on my thumbs and run water over the item, "scrubbing" it with my thumbs. I'm afraid I'd put a scratch on it, even with a soft-bristle toothbrush.

Sorry to be off topic, but I'd like to share that I've had good luck cleaning silver with hot water, soap and a horsehair brush (the kind used for putting shaving cream on your face).
