From the mint, to the bank, to the holey pocket, to the dirt. Great find!

Congrats on the Morgan. 1878 was the first year they were minted. The very first ones had 8 tail feathers on the eagle. When it was pointed out to the mint that 8 tail feathers on the eagle was anatomically incorrect, they stopped production, and re-struck the ones they had not yet put in circulation. those are called 7 over 8 tail feather Morgans. So in 1878 there were 7 tail feather, 8 tail feather, and 7 over 8 tail feather Morgans.

Happy Hunting everyone!

Amazing!!!

When do you guys think something like that was dropped. I remember reading that there was a glut of them made before the turn of the century, and many of them didn't make it out of the mint for several decades? I am thinking that the morgans were out there as a novelty or something, but still only worth $1 well into the 20th century, right?

They were in circulation in the 20th century. They were even used in Las Vegas slot machines before they switched to tokens.
