Newbie to this Forum, have been metal detecting for many years but just getting back into it as I have been away for several years. I still had a old Silver Sabre Plus. Sent it off to Tesoro for a tune up and got it back all tuned up with a new coil and new battery door and battery AA holder. They really took care of me. Thanks Tesoro!!

They treated me well and I had owned a Golden Sabre Plus also in the past, I went out and bought my son a Compadre. I have always had good luck with Tesoro Detectors.

We have hunted several times now and I wanted to tell you guys that the Compadre is really good at Discrimination. Several pieces of junk that was slightly hitting on the Silver Sabre Plus was not even giving a hit on the Compadre with both discriminators tuned with a nickel to just accept them.

I am impressed, I suspect that an improved design with lower noise circuitry lets the Compadre operate more effficiently from the standpoint of picking out whats good and bad. I see now why its reputation to hunt trashy areas is so good.

I guess I have joined the Church of The Compadre.

Real sorry about that, too.

I gained a whole new level of respect for the Compadre just as soon as I got my Vaquero. I'm REALLY happy I have BOTH.

I thought I was tired of the small coil? Uh-uh. It picks pennies out of carpets of trash. Depth? I go over ground with my Vaquero that I hit with the Compadre, and find that there is very little clad left. Some, but very little.

I thought the Vaquero would leave the Compadre moth-balled, but I hit a construction site today with the Vaq and wished I had brought the Compadre.

The Compadre is a keeper. It's a tool all by itself.

I have both and an F2, plus a few different coils and I use them all...love them all.

After all the talk about the Compadre in this forum I have Seen the Light, Brothers.

I am expecting my Compadre to joun my Vaquero early next week. If it is 1/3 as good as the members claim, it will be welcomed with open arms.

I hereby apply for membership to the "Church of the Compadre". Amen

Bout time.

Having both a Vaquero and a Compadre will give you a classic team like no others.
Well...maybe like a few others....

I think I'm driving everyone on here crazy!!. Including myself. I was going to buy my MD today but just can't seem to narrow it down to 1. Between a Cortes, an AT Pro, and a Whites M6. Can you finally convince me to buy the cortes? PLEASE!. As stated before I will be at the Jersey shore part of the summer but mostly home in West Hartford, CT. I really love the Cortes just worried about its performance on the beach or wet sand and cant afford 2 detectors. Thanks You!!!.

If you get it in your head that you won't have optimum results unless you are buying a dedicated water machine, just pick one and go with it.
I love the Tesoro's, so that would be my choice out of these 3.
Multiple frequency machine have a better time with this mineralization problem, DD coils seem to work a little better, too.
You might not get the depth of a water machine in the harshest environment, but the Cortes will still work enough to find plenty of goodies, the dry sand it will be great and on land, too.
Eventually, you should find enough to buy that water machine in the future if you make a commitment to really learn whatever machine you buy.

Found this review from a user...he says it seems to work well on Fla. beaches.

By BOB G

Myself and my hunting partner have the Cortes' and have used them on a S.Florida beach. Now let me preface the rest of my remarks by saying I'm 62 yrs old and an retired IBM Systems Engineer and Sr.Marketing staffer. My experience with metal detecting is approximately 5 yrs. With that said, I would like to offer my input to both Tesoro users and the Tesoro Electronics,Company; and that my remarks are completely unbiased.

POSITIVES:

1-The unit is light and well balanced. Putting the batteries under the arm rest was a good design.
2-The Cortes'is much more sensitive than my Bandido II umax which means it has better depth.

3-The target IDing was excellent; better than my Whites XLT which is a more expensive unit.

4-Pin pointing is as good as the Bandido II umax which is excellent.

5-I switched over to SUM mode from DISC and liked the different tones. This audio feature will come in handy as I'll explain later.

6-The CORTES worked great in wet sand (which is the extent of our mineralization here in S.Florida. My partner dug a coin that was at least 7 or 8 inches out of the wet-salt-sand, and most other machines usually have a problem with this type of sand.

7-The display light worked fine, especially since we usually start detecting beaches just prior to dawn.

The Cortes is a POWERFUL machine, so much that I was forced to turn down the sensitivity to 5.

NEGATIVES:

1-The Display. It is almost (and I say almost) useless unless I wear prescription glasses. The imprinted graph guideline markings are even smaller; one has to count the number of spaces over, for example, to know that the graph is depicting a dime or copper cent. For its size (2 X 16) Tesoro has tried to fit entirely too much information on it.

SUMMARY:
I for one will probably keep my CORTES with the hope that TESORO ELECTRONICS will improve the display and allow me to send my unit back to the factory for modification.

WHY I LOVE MY COMPADRE!

I bought this one for the arsenal because I am a jewelry hunter.
This is a rough video on a windy day, evidently I was drunk because I just couldn't get the word sensitivity to come out of my mouth, but it will do for now till I make a better one.
As you can see, my Vaq picked up the small clasp on this tiny chain, but it had to be at full sense, supertuned and with minimum disk.
At all metal, the Vaq picked it up, but still only at an inch or less.
The Compadre down near all metal was a healthy 3-3 1/2 inches on this clasp, and solid as can be.

This is another reason I usually hunt in all metal with this little gem.
Set this on iron and that chain is nowhere to be seen.

welcome to the realms sir

a nice thing about the compadre is that is great to hand it to a partner with no MDing experience and you still have a nice detector for you to use

Just stay out of my area.
I don't need another hunter with the odds tilted in his favor around here like you are going to have.
