if you want a low cost method, put all the pennies in a container, add vinegar, warm water (and something... I forgot), close the lid with a firm seal, then shake HARD for 3-5 mins.

One step up you buy a harbour freight coin tumbler.

Peroxide may be overkill for the pennies...

Seems there are as many recipes for cleaning coins as there are people posting them. Says to me that no one method works or that no one knows for sure what the best method is. Pretty frustrating.

yes there is many
if it's clad just put it in a tumbler for a couple of hours clean enough to spend
if it's penny s after 1959 tumble for a hour then vinegar and salt (pinch) for a minute or two makes it spendable.
wheat, silver and other old coins more delicate measures must be taken and tried that's were it's get frustrating and it takes time and patience

I use peroxide on my wheats, but only if they have a heavy crust of corrosion on them. I care about every wheat I find and peroxide (within reason) won't remove patina.

All my Memorials get white vinegar and salt because I simply don't care about them. BUT, I follow the vinegar with a fresh-water rinse and then a bath in a solution of baking soda and water to end the acid reaction. They come out fairly shiny and ready to spend. Vinegar works, but you have to follow it with baking soda to make clad look "normal."

Dont use vinegar on any wheaties or IH's ...unless you want to destroy them.
