Default Newbie - looking to learn

I plan on going to the Middle Tennessee Metal Detecting Club meeting on April 6th at 7pm to meet some people and ask some questions about gear and locations we are actually allowed to hunt. From what I have read, unless I'm missing something, private land is the best and almost only option. No detecting in City, State or National PArks? right???

I dont have a detector yet - until I can decide on one and figure out where I am allowed to use it, but would be happy to join, help and watch if anyone wants a helper.

Hey I found a great detector on Craig's list. I got it for 75 bucks and it had never been used. Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505 there are several listed you should check it out.

Thanks. The more I read about detectors the more confused I am. I will attend the upcoming meeting before buying anything. Also, there is a place in town that rents a few. I may rent a few different models before buying.

..just to update this thread for the middle tn hunters... been getting pm's about Metro Park hunting because some here know that I work for the Public Works dept..

Here in NASHVILE your not allowed to M'detect in City Parks , on or around City owned school playgrounds , around Park /school ball fields.
-Plus you cannot detect on TVA land ( All lake beaches are of limits in TN.) Punishable by a fine...

Default No metal detecting in Nashville city parks

Sorry to hear that you can't metal detect in any Nashville city parks and any city-owned property even on TVA lands. What a big bummer!!!! IMO,Nashville is more restrictive on MDing on its property. I wont go there.

Default Detecting in Nashville area

I am in town on Tuesday of this week for work training. I am looking to go detecting on tuesday afternoon. I have a rental car and could meet up anywhere. I do a lot of detecting here in idaho, but don't know where to go in the Nashville area. I do metal detecting videos for Gerry's Detectors in Boise idaho. If you want to see my videos look up Gerry's detectors on YouTube. Email me at rj32@hotmail.com.
