Default New Recruit for our Hobby!

Hi All,

New to the site. I was asked by a friend at work what a good beginner detector would be. $200 - $500 would be his price range. Any suggestions? I know I love my ACE 250, but I would like to find a few others for him to choose from.

Best,

Diggin

For the low end and close to $200, its hard to beat the F2. IMHO
For close to $500 or a little more, the AT Pro is a great detector.

I concur. The Fisher F2 is a great machine. I have the Fisher F5 as well, and it's my "go to" stick. I did have an issue with the F2 when I first received it. However,Fisher repaired it, and the turn around time was acceptable. My buddy has a Garrett 250,and is thinking of upgrading to the F5 after seeing it in action.I always take the F2 as a back up,just in case.I cannot comment on the AT Pro,since I have never used one.

love my at pro and couldn't be happier..
on $500 if you can get one used then excellent

but new I would say on the lower end maybe a fisher f2 or a garrett ace 250 or a tesoro compadre.

on the middle end of the spectrum circa 300 you could go for a garrett ace 350 or perhaps a tesoro umax

on the high end circa 500 my vote goes again to the at pro (used) or the tesoro vaquero (great depth and lifetime warranty)

my best advice would be to purchase something at about $300 and use the rest for a pinpointer.. will save much time with targets etc
