Default Tumbler media

I made a tumbler out of a vibrating buffer. It works good, too good. It is very violent, and with gravel the coins take a beating. I used rice and that worked ok, but would be better suited for polishing. Im trying to find something hard enough to clean coins but soft enough not to damage them. I have some plastic pellets from a airsoft gun I think I might try. You guys got any ideas on what else I could use?

Thanks

Mike

I see gravel recommended almost universally, but I wonder what would happen if plain sand were used instead?
