Welcome to the club. The addiction only gets worse once you find a few nice coins/rings.

Get a cheap Bounty Hunter or something similar and go clean out the local parks/tot lots of clad. You'll be amazed at how quickly the clad adds up, and maybe you'll get lucky and find a gold ring or something.
Once you have found enough, cash it in and go get the AT Pro. Sell your Bounty Hunter or keep it as a back up. Just an idea that will get you out MD'ing and has the possibility of helping you get the Pro quicker. I also agree with others here....get out of your layaway and go with a forum sponsor, you will pay less.

From Garrett, the AT Pro brand new with the accessories was 699.99...thats what Im paying at pawn shop (spring special) and its never been used...yea I could of saved 100$ or so ordering online from sponsor but I cant save money thus I put it on layaway. Plus its a 15%. Restocking fee if I take it off layaway...sold my TV and xbox today, only 200$ left!! In a month or so the money will be flowing in from the tourist...I could go sell my ace 150 and nice fishing rod to the pawn shop and get it out tonight, but I want a back up detector and one for my friends if they tag along...im pretty sure it will be in my hands Wednesday (fingers crossed)...my next detector I will definitely shop around through sponsors....I MUST SAY, I WILL RATHER BE ADDICTED TO METAL DETECTING THAN BE ADDICTED TO DRUGS!

Stay with your local dealer. That's hard for me to say considering that I do almost all my business with New England Detectors. But, a local dealer will be there to help you when you have questions and to show you first hand how to operate your machine. The difference is the extra profit he/she must make. Some of us on the forum don't have a good quality dealer nearby. For us, there are forum sponsors.

Welcome to this great forum!!! I finds metal detecting VERY addicting!!!! When I got home from my work,I quickly changed my work uniform and put my clothes on. Then I go out to hunt for coins. I find this hobby very relaxing after a long day at my work.

I think this hobby is just like a lot of other hobbies that people get really super interested in like fishing, boating, golfing, etc. I detect all the time, usually every day weather permitting. I've had a lot of hobbies but this one by far is my favorite. And yes, occasionally I dream about big finds so I take it to bed with me too. My fondest and weirdest dream is where I found a jar full of gold and silver coins in a wooded area but a cop came along to see what I was doing and I buried it again and went to talk to the cop far away from the find so it wouldn't be claimed by the county or state. Later when I was done talking with the cop I couldn't remember exactly where the dig was and alas couldn't find the jar again. I woke up in a sweat.
Yeah, I think I am definitely addicted to this hobby. Welcome to my world. |
