Garrett GTAx 550 broken?

Turned it on for first time today a.d wasnt happy. Targets were bouncing up and down the scale and they would not clear for a very long time. Thought maybe a coil problem same thing with different coil. To thought maybe soil as it was a new place so wenr to familliar ground and same thing. Store it over winter with no batteries in it as i have for years. No change there. Put another new set of batteries in it of a different brand and same thing.

Any ideas?
