Congratulations!.... and I want to thank you for posting this story. I've been detecting less than a year now and I've only dug junky relics and lots and lots of can slaw. Your story gives me some motivation to get back out there and try harder!!

Thank you all very much! I'll be going back pretty much every weekend and posting any new finds in this thread.

lol. No I didn't really sleep at all the first weekend. Heck I still catch myself laying awake at night thinking about getting back out there.

Absolutely amazing find. Congratulations isn't a strong enough word!

It must sadden you, though, to realize a site like that has no chance to renew itself....you know, like a nice Totlot can.

Thanks guys.

I went back to the site for a little while over the weekend. Unfortunately it started raining and I didn't get to do much detecting. I didn't find a single coin this time. :/ I know theres more to be found though, just gotta hold out for some better weather.

Are you discriminating out the lower conductivity targets?

There could have been smaller gold coins in this cache.

A $5 Gold piece comes in a tad lower than a Zincoln. A $10 Gold piece comes in a tad lower than a copper penny, but higher than a Zincoln, about like a wine screw cap. The $1 comes in a tad lower than a nickel, and a $2.50 a tad higher than you average pull tab.

Just wondering!

I know you don't have an E-Trac but here are the VDIs for an E-Trac:

US gold 1 dollar 12-11
US gold 2.5 dollar 12-22
US gold 5 dollar 12-31
US gold 10 dollar 12-38
US gold 20 dollar 12-44
Nickel 12-13
Bud twist off 12-25
Zincoln 12-36
Dime 12-44

Ryan,
The first weekend I was digging anything in the nickel range on up, and skipping most broken signals. But after finding the gold coin, I've started grid searching the area, digging everything that reads +5 on up, broken or not. I'm going to pull every piece of metal out of the ground at this site before I'm done with it.
